FIRE CAPTAIN manages a team of firefighters. Ensures all equipment is properly maintained and serviced. Being a FIRE CAPTAIN directs training and conditioning activities. Administers the staff work schedule to ensure adequate coverage. Additionally, FIRE CAPTAIN leads and coordinates responses to fire events, hazardous material incidents, auto accidents, and search and rescue operations. Prepares post-incident reports as required. Leads or coordinates fire safety education and inspection activities. Typically is required to pass periodic physical ability tests. May require registry in NREMT. Typically requires an associate degree in fire science. Requires Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) - Basic. Typically reports to a manager. The FIRE CAPTAIN manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a FIRE CAPTAIN typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required.     Our Fairbanks Westamrk Hotel and Conference Center is looking for Banquet Captain to assist in overseeing all activities for our catered events.

    Responsibilities:

    • Works under general supervision to coordinate the staff and activities for catered events.
    • Monitors event preparations, presentation, and operations, and verifies successful completion.
    • Assists in coordinating kitchen services with event requirements.
    • Observes the operation of food and beverage services.
    • Collects and processes payments.
    • Maintains records of events and payments in the appropriate logs.
    • Performs duties required by departmental supervision.

    Requirements:

    • This job normally requires a level of knowledge in customer service or food and beverage service equivalent to that which would be acquired through the completion of high school or equivalent certification. Demonstration of directly related work experience may be considered in lieu of the educational requirement.
    • Must have or the ability to obtain an Alaska Food Handler's card prior to your first day of work.
    • Must have or the ability to obtain a TAM or TIPS alcohol training card prior to your first day of work.
    • Must pass a pre-employment background check that will include a credit check.

    • Must be able to legally work in the United States.

    Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

    • Ability to prioritize work, maintain attention to time constraints, while working in a team or group environment.

    • Ability to work in fast-paced environment with multiple tasks and external influences.
    • Ability to work with all levels of management, employees and customers with sensitivity, tact and diplomacy.
    • Ability to support and comply with company policies, procedures and guidelines including all company health and safety standards.
    • Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time, use hands and fingers to handle or feel, to talk to customers.
    • Ability to push, pull and carry tables, chairs, trays, plates, and chaffing dishes on a daily basis, 20 – 40 pounds.
    • Ability to work a varied work schedule and overtime work may be required according to business needs.
