FIRE CAPTAIN manages a team of firefighters. Ensures all equipment is properly maintained and serviced. Being a FIRE CAPTAIN directs training and conditioning activities. Administers the staff work schedule to ensure adequate coverage. Additionally, FIRE CAPTAIN leads and coordinates responses to fire events, hazardous material incidents, auto accidents, and search and rescue operations. Prepares post-incident reports as required. Leads or coordinates fire safety education and inspection activities. Typically is required to pass periodic physical ability tests. May require registry in NREMT. Typically requires an associate degree in fire science. Requires Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) - Basic. Typically reports to a manager. The FIRE CAPTAIN manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a FIRE CAPTAIN typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required. Responsibilities:
- Manage and oversee the operation of a vessel, ensuring the safety and well-being of all crew members and passengers.
- Navigate the vessel using charts, compasses, and other navigational aids.
- Monitor weather conditions and adjust course as necessary to ensure a safe journey.
- Communicate with crew members to coordinate activities and ensure efficient operation of the vessel.
- Maintain and inspect all equipment on board, including mechanical systems, rigging, and safety equipment.
- Ensure compliance with all maritime regulations and safety standards.
- Provide excellent customer service to passengers, addressing any concerns or issues that may arise during the voyage.
- Oversee the loading and unloading of cargo or passengers, ensuring proper procedures are followed.
Skills:
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to effectively manage a team.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Mechanical knowledge to troubleshoot and address any issues that may arise with the vessel's systems.
- Knowledge of navigation techniques and ability to read charts and use navigational aids.
