Financial Reporting Director directs and oversees the preparation and distribution of all periodic financial statements for external use. Ensures that reports, filings and documentation complies with company's regulations, professional standards, and SEC and GAAP reporting guidelines. Being a Financial Reporting Director confirms that entries, transactions, and accounts are accurately and properly consolidated and are included in internal and external financial statements. Advises management of trends and changes in reporting requirements and recommends best approach for any changes in reporting. Additionally, Financial Reporting Director may serve as a liaison with or oversee the work of external auditors. May direct the preparation of materials for board or shareholders. Requires a bachelor's degree of Accounting or Finance. Typically reports to top management. The Financial Reporting Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. To be a Financial Reporting Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience.     What is the Opportunity?

    • Ensure financial information for RBC Bank is complete and prepared timely and accurately for internal and external stakeholders
    • Prepare, examine, and analyze financial information, transactions and records to assess accuracy, completeness, and compliance with accounting and enterprise standards.
    • Ensure RBC Bank maintains a strong internal control environment over financial reporting and drive the timely execution, monitoring and assessment of controls and deficiencies

    What will you do?

    • Lead the month-end financial close (25%)
      • Maintain the master check-list of activities and ensure all activities are completed timely
      • Ensure compliance with accounting procedures and policies
      • Review and approve journal entries from finance team
      • Review and approve reconciliations
      • Prepare or review consolidated monthly/reporting package
      • Provide advice and counsel to other teams on accounting matters and transactions
      • Present financial results to the Chief Financial Office
    • Direct accountability to prepare, analyze and present the annual financial statements (15%)
      • Lead the preparation of financial statements and notes with direct accountability for accuracy, completeness and compliance with accounting standards
      • Gather information from subject-matter experts including clearly articulating the requirements and developing procedures to assess accuracy and reasonableness of information received
      • Complete disclosure checklist and peer comparisons
      • Coordinate stakeholder reviews and incorporate comments
      • Work directly with external auditors as required and resolve issues
    • Accountability for regulatory reporting (30%)
      • Collaborate with New York reporting team on issues, policies, procedures and new requirements
      • Prepare and/or provide oversight to regulatory reports filed directly by RBC Bank or submitted to the holding company (Examples: Call Report, Y-9C, FR-009, CCAR, FR Y-15)
      • Maintain reporting procedures and ensure alignment with protocols established by RBC USA Holdco
      • Prepare/review - Review and Challenge packages
    • Lead the activities and processes to ensure internal controls over financial reporting are operating as designed (15%)
      • Provide direct oversight over Finance financial reporting controls and report status of operating effectiveness
      • Provide insights to control owners to gain efficiencies while maintaining the risk profile
      • Assess deficiencies and provide results/recommendations to senior management
      • Support compliance with data governance and management policies and procedures (data domains, CDEs, data quality rules, etc.)
      • Remain current on changes in the accounting and audit procedures
    • Lead the preparation and/or oversight of various head office templates and reporting packages and ensure compliance with enterprise standards (10%)
      • Maintain supporting documentation and ensure items are submitted timely
      • Ensure new requirements are analyzed, data requirements are clearly communicated and procedures updated
    • Analyze new accounting guidance and impact to RBC Bank including preparing and presenting updates to senior management (5%)
    • Provide support to:
      • Performance management on activities such as business cases
      • Planning and Forecasting and 1st Line Data Governance
      • Accounts Payable
      • Accounting

    What do you need to succeed?

    Basic Qualifications

    • Major Accounting (CPA preferred)
    • At least 7 to 10 years work experience
    • Intermediate Excel/PowerPoint/Word skills
    • Ability to multi-task
    • Strong communication, written and presentation skills
    • Strong organizational and planning skills
    • Comfortable in a position affording significant daily exposure to auditors, functional heads, enterprise finance groups and other senior managers
    • Experience in the banking or financial services industry
    • Experience in documenting, reporting and evaluating controls
    • Experience with managing/coordinating an audit relationship
