Has general knowledge of insurance terms and practices. Requires a high school diploma. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Financial Counselor - Healthcare works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline. Job Summary
The Financial Counselor will be responsible for discussing and arranging payment options for patients at time of service.
Essential Functions- Greets patients and their families with friendly attitude
- Responsible for careful and accurate compiling of information on each patient
- Responsible for patient’s right to privacy and maintaining confidentiality
- Answers office telephone promptly and courteously
- Responsible for processing of point of service collection
- Performs office duties with awareness of what needs to be done and how to achieve it
- Keeps current on changes in policy and procedures
- Performs job regularly with little or no direction and supervision
- Handles business inquires satisfactory
- Duties require interaction with different patient age groups, i.e. adolescents, adults, and the elderly, and requires recognition that different age groups require specialized attention or care
- Schedule appointments with clients regarding financial responsibilities
- Utilize Experian cost estimator to determine patients financials liability
- Complete Missouri Medicaid screening tool
- Assist patient in completing assistance packets
- Explain and discuss patients initial financial responsibilities
- Arrange payment plans when needed
- Arrange short and long term payment plans, calculating simple interest after a (12) payment plan without interest, then on the (13) month will calculate payment scale with 8% interest up to a (3) month period.
- Patients needing a payment term greater than (3) FC will meet with CFO to discuss options and receive approval
- Work with Bank representative that Southeast has chosen as our long term financing option
- Work through the deferral process with Director of Patient Access and CFO regarding approval or denial of services for those patients that aren’t able to pay or commit. Any other duties as needed to drive to the Vision, fulfill the Mission, and abide by the Values of the organization

Qualifications- High School Diploma or Equivalent required
- Minimum of 1 year Working in a detail oriented or public work environment preferred
