Financial Counselor - Healthcare jobs in Louisiana

The Financial Counselor is responsible for offering financial advice and assistance to patients regarding medical bills.  There are the liaison between patients and their insurance companies; often coordinating payment and answering questions from both parties.    Maintaining accurate account balances in accordance with contractual obligations, fee schedules, or regulations is required job duty.

Essential Functions:

1. Conducts individual financial meetings with all patients and/or patient family members to review insurance benefits, complete and submit Medicaid applications, collect payments, set up payment plans or offer financial hardship applications to qualified patients.
2. Working with the Central Billing department, performs follow-up activities by telephone or electronic inquiry on accounts with outstanding third-party payer balance to determine status of claims in accordance with payer specific follow-up guidelines for their assigned hospital.
3. Working with the Central Billing department, attempts to expedite claim adjudication by resolving issues that may delay processing, involving the patient/guarantor, as necessary for their assigned hospital.
4. Clearly and concisely documents pertinent follow up activity upon completion of each occurrence in patient accounting system for their assigned hospital.
5. Communicates with other revenue cycle staff members, Utilization Review/Case Management, and site leadership to ensure timely and accurate claims information is provided for payments.
6. Completes daily and weekly productivity/performance reporting as directed by management.
7. Performs other duties and projects as assigned.
