General Summary:

Under the general direction of the Deli Supervisor and Area Manager, the Deli Associate assists in helping the company deliver on our commitment to provide superior customer service. The Deli Associate is responsible for maintaining a clean and visually appealing work station that is well stocked with a variety of quality food and beverage options.

Responsibilities and Duties:

• Welcomes and makes eye contact with all customers when they enter the store
• Represent the company in a professional manner at all times
• Make sure all hot food and beverage items are fresh and properly prepared at the correct temperatures 
• Clean and sanitize work areas, equipment, utensils, dishes or silverware
• Mix ingredients for green salads, readymade fruit salads, vegetable salads and pasta salads
• Prepare a variety of food, such as meats, vegetables, fruits, sandwiches, salads, soups, pizzas, hot dogs, chicken or beverages according to customers’ orders or supervisors’ instructions, follow approved procedures
• Store food in designated containers and storage areas to maintain freshness and prevent spoilage
• Take and record temperature of food and food storage areas such as refrigerators and freezers
• Take food orders and relay orders to the Deli Supervisor for proper planning and scheduling
• Wash, peel and cut various foods, such as fruits and vegetables, to prepare for cooking or serving 
• Weigh or measure ingredients
• Other duties as assigned.
  
  

Education and Work Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred
• Basic aptitude and understanding of food service operations preferred. 
• Some customer service experience is preferred. 
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required. 
• Incumbent must pay attention to detail and be thorough in completing work tasks. 
• Must have the ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers and have an understanding of simple fractions and decimals.

Skill Set

You may be required to use and familiarize yourself with the following software, tools and equipment that are essential to the job: Computer w/ internet and e-mail capabilities, Microsoft Excel, step ladder, Fryer, Commercial Service Scale, Knife sharpener, Meat slicer, Rotisserie, coffee brewer, fountain machine, cappuccino machine, convection oven, roller grill, and all chemicals associated with general maintenance and cleaning.

• Must be able to effectively communicate
• Demonstrate effective verbal communication skills and have excellent follow through

Physical Demands and Work Environment         

Ability to perform numerous physical activities that require considerable use of your hands, arms and legs and moving your whole body, including prolonged or repeated standing, walking, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and lifting of materials. Frequent lifting, grasping, and carrying materials and equipment up to 50 lbs. Proficient hand/eye dexterity. Must be able to communicate well enough to receive instructions and provide information to others.

• Must be able to work any shift, Sunday – Saturday 
• Ability to work in a cold room or cooler (Down to -15 degrees)
• Work in damp, wet or dusty conditions
• Work outside in all weather conditions
• Work with cleaning chemicals
• Work with exposure to loud noises
