SaiTech, Inc. is seeking an experienced High Power Transmitter Mechanical Field Engineer for a contract in Fort Irwin, CA.

Position Description:

The Field Engineer will provide operations and maintenance support for a 34M antenna used for Radio Astronomy & Educational/Scientific Research Programs, including mechanical, RF and Servo subsystems, components, and equipment. The Field Engineer will perform hands on troubleshooting, repair, reverse engineering and equipment Preventive Maintenance (PM) and Corrective Maintenance (CM) at DSS-28 to achieve an increased antenna availability and reliability.

Requirements:

• Provides operation and maintenance of a 34 meter DSS28 High Speed Beam Waveguide Telecommunications Antenna, mechanical, RF and instrumentation, and associated position control, HVAC, power and security systems.
• Supports and leads evaluations and analysis of antenna maintenance systems and methods related to sub-systems and components for continual improvement.
• Additional spare parts will be identified by the Field Engineer for procurement and stocking (such as position control, receiver components: amplifiers, synthesizers, multipliers and support equipment, encoders and backend components) to have them available for antenna repairs as needed.
• Field Engineer shall have primary responsibility to establish an effective maintenance program for the DSS-28 antenna should also include identification and stocking of critical spare parts needed to sustain operations and minimize unscheduled downtimes. To achieve increased antenna reliability, the Antenna Maintenance Field Engineer is responsible to identify spare parts for the unique antenna systems at DSS-28 should also be procured and stocked at Goldstone Deep Space Communications Complex (GDSCC).
• The Field Engineer may also be used to support other DSN O&M tasks as tasks and availability are prioritized (i.e., the field engineer will be assigned primarily to support DSS28 Antenna "full time" but may also be assigned to support other assignments at GDSCC).
• Works with the GAVRT program representatives and directly with the JPL customer in developing and implementing an effective subsystem condition assessment and maintenance program, as well as status reports about antenna condition and related maintenance activities.
• Field Engineer must be capable of reverse engineering of subsystems as needed to document configuration, including creation and updating of drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, operating manuals and other documentation used for operation, repair and troubleshooting. May also assist in planning efforts to identify, review, and analyze subsystem upgrades to meet new requirements and/or environmental regulations.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education

• Requires BS Degree in Electronics, or equivalent education and experience.

Experience

• 3 years directly related experience on high speed microwave telecommunications antenna mechanical and RF systems

Education Contract Equivalent Statement:

BS degree in electrical engineering preferred, experience may be substituted.
