Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator / Field Technician

    BACKGROUND OF LRT:
    Lockwood Remediation Technologies, LLC (“LRT”) is a full-service remediation and dewatering contracting firm. LRT specializes in the “turnkey” approach to projects and can design, install, rent and assist in the operation, optimization and maintenance of provided systems.     GENERAL PURPOSE:
    Performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled technical and maintenance work in the assembly, operation, maintenance and repair of wastewater and water treatment systems.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
    · Assist in operating and maintaining a variety of wastewater processing equipment.
    · Monitors the performance of all equipment, gauges and charts in the treatment plant and pump stations.
    · Maintains, operates, repairs and replaces equipment as necessary.
    · Maintains a variety of records relating to inspections, maintenance activity, etc.
    · Operates, maintains and repairs malfunctions at wastewater treatment plants and systems, including gauges, pumps, filters and other equipment.
    · Collects wastewater samples required in accordance with local, state and Federal requirements.
    · Performs quality control tests on lab equipment and lab analyses; evaluates procedures and results for accuracy and determines appropriate methods.
    · Assures that plant/system operates within required standards.
    · Calibrates, modifies or repairs instrumentation and control equipment including recorders, flowmeter and other water quality monitoring equipment.
    · Cleans tanks, vessels, filter beds using backwashing techniques.
    · Operates pumps and valves to control and adjust for flow and the treatment process.
    · Performs all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards.
    · Responds to complaints regarding wastewater system failures, leaks, or other problems; evaluates situation and performs necessary adjustments with consultation of project manager(s).
    · Field work includes assisting Superintendents with installing, uninstalling and operating dewatering, water treatment and remediation systems. Systems include, but are not limited to, frac/weir tanks, pumps, filters, vessels, etc.
    · Shop work includes, but is not limited to, cleaning and maintaining shop and equipment, loading equipment and materials, and preparing items for mobilization/demobilization, and turning in completed paperwork for administration daily.

    PERIPHERAL DUTIES:
    · Serves on various committees as assigned.
    · Maintains the drawings and schematics of electrical and other systems as needed.
    · Monitors performance of electrical systems, circuits or equipment of the system(s) as needed.

    DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
    Education and Experience:
    · Graduation from high school education or GED equivalent, and, supplemented by two (2) years post-secondary college or technical training in biology, environmental science, chemistry, or a closely related field, and
    · At least four years’ experience as a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator;
    · Any equivalent combination of education and experience.
    · Valid driver’s license.

    NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES:
    · Thorough knowledge of Wastewater Treatment Plant operations.
    · Working knowledge of equipment, facilities, materials, methods and procedures used in wastewater treatment system maintenance and operation activities.
    · Working knowledge of laboratory procedures and practices.
    · Skilled in operation of some of the listed tools and equipment.
    · Ability to perform process control calculations.
    · Ability to work safely and follow standard operating procedures.
    · Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
    · Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments and the public.
    · Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.
    · Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    · Possess excellent problem-solving skills.
    · Have a working knowledge of, and ability to use, a computer for data entry.
    · Ability to multi-task.
    · Ability to work in multiple environments including wet and dirty indoor and outdoor environments.
    · Ability to safely work with chemicals.

    SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
    · State of Massachusetts WWTP Operators Certification, or received through reciprocity, a current/valid operator’s certificate equivalent to a MA Grade 2, or the ability to obtain within six months.
    · Ability to pass a Massachusetts CORI (Criminal Offender Record Information) check and nationwide background check.
    · OSHA 10 And OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER a plus but not required.
    · Ability to work a flexible schedule, including overtime, some overnights and on-call hours as needed.

    TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED:
    Motor vehicles, generators, pumps, gauges, common hand and power tools, shovels, wrenches, detection devices, forklift, mobile radio, phone, computer, calculator, and a variety of lab equipment.

    The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works in outside weather conditions. The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to wet, dirty, and/or humid conditions. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, risk of electrical shock, and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals.

    The noise level in the work environment is usually moderately loud.

    COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
    The company pays competitive salaries, provides medical and dental benefits, 401K, profit sharing and paid time off (PTO). This is a full-time, non-exempt position. The position is based out of the company’s office in Leominster, MA.
