    Department: Civil/Environmental

    Employment Type: Full Time

    Location: Cedar Rapids, IA

    Description

Engineering Technician (Construction Observation, Field Survey or CAD)

We are looking for a motivated Engineering Technician to work in any Fehr Graham office. The right candidate can be interested in our construction observation, field survey and/or computer-aided design (CAD) positions. We are interested in talented, trustworthy and skilled people who are passionate about providing personalized attention to our clients.

    Your Primary Responsibilities will include

    What you’ll do
Construction Observation: You’ll prepare project notes, calculations and summary sheets following procedures, and create and interpret CAD drawings. You'll support the engineering and environmental functions of the firm.  The workweek will exceed 40 hours, especially during construction season.

Field Survey: You will work primarily outside (so it’s important you like all types of weather) to collect topographic survey data, set up and maintain project survey control, and complete construction layout and boundary field survey. You’ll also help with construction observation to make sure plans are followed. The workweek will exceed 40 hours, especially during construction season.

CAD: You will interpret and create 2D and 3D drawings in AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or Revit. You’ll prepare calculations and summary sheets and manipulate data under established procedures.

In either position, you’ll support the engineering and environmental functions of the firm. We promote a team environment, so you’ll work with fellow engineering technicians, engineers, environmental scientists and many more people. And you'll develop leadership skills that build autonomy.

    What you'll need

    What it takes
Construction Observation: An associate degree in Engineering Technology, Construction Technology, Architecture Technology or CAD Drafting from a technical college or institution is preferred. Relevant experience may offset the educational requirement. You must have a valid driver’s license.

Field Survey: An associate degree in Survey Engineering Technology, Engineering Technology or Construction Technology is a plus, but it is not required. A valid driver’s license is required. We’re looking for someone with some professional experience, but if you are a recent grad, eager to learn and motivated, we are interested.

CAD: An associate degree in Engineering Technology, Construction Technology, Architecture Technology or CAD Drafting from a technical college or institution is preferred. Relevant experience using AutoCAD Civil 3D and or Revit in a similar operation may offset the educational requirement.

The city is divided into four quadrants, used in addressing. 1st Avenue (U.S. Route 151 Business) divides the north and south sides of the city, and the Cedar River divides east and west. Mays Island, in the middle of the river, is the only area of the city where addresses have no quadrant. Areas outside the city limits that have a Cedar Rapids mailing address do not use the quadrants either. Except in the downtown area, 1st Avenue and the Cedar River tend to run diagonally instead of along the cardinal directions. Due to the curving of 1st Avenue, there are some areas in western Cedar Rapids ...
