Field Engineer - Construction delivers on-site technical oversight support to provide engineering guidance and monitoring for construction projects. Monitors construction progress and conducts daily site inspections to ensure work complies with time, budget, quality, safety, and regulatory requirements. Being a Field Engineer - Construction follows quality control procedures and inspection protocols to ensure that standards, designs, blueprints, and specifications are understood and followed. Troubleshoots technical issues that arise on-site and consult with architects, contractors, and supervisors to develop and implement solutions with minimal disruption to project schedules. Additionally, Field Engineer - Construction documents construction activities using logs, progress, and inspection reports and regularly updates status to project managers. Attends project meetings to provide technical input and present recommendations to improve construction processes. Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Field Engineer - Construction work is closely managed. Works on projects/matters of limited complexity in a support role.     Job Summary

    Directly supervise and coordinate activities of construction workers to ensure that employees on a jobsite comply with the government’s safety regulations and meet the company’s and client’s standards of workmanship quality and production efficiency. Proactively work with field staff and Project Management to safely bring projects in on time and under budget.


    Principal Responsibilities

    • Meet with estimator to go over material and labor requirements to complete jobs.
    • Read specifications, such as blueprints, to determine construction requirements or to plan procedures.
    • Have a thorough and complete knowledge and understanding of the contract, plans, and specifications in order to assist Project Management in the development of on-site procedures.
    • Collaborate with Project Management and Superintendents to make sure all parties have a clear understanding of each project.
    • Direct field personnel to achieve completion of each project on schedule, within budget, with quality workmanship that conforms to the approved plans and specifications.
    • Investigate potentially serious situations and implement corrective measures.
    • Check the workers to make sure that each one of them puts on the required protective equipment needed for carrying out his/her daily duties.
    • Work with superintendents to locate, measure, and mark site locations or placement of structures or equipment, using measuring and marking equipment.
    • Record information such as personnel, production, or operational data on specified forms or reports.
    • Provide weekly report describing what was worked on for each project and list any corrections that were made or issues that were addressed.
    • Provide high quality photos for pre and post construction documentation and post the photos with weekly report on Basecamp or the company’s PM software.
    • Plan and supervise field production and/or craft activities including determining method of construction, manpower levels, material quantities, equipment, work schedule, etc.
    • Work with Project Management, Superintendents, and Executive Administrator on manpower distribution.
    • Coordinate assigned work with work of different crafts, company departments, other contractors and/or Client & A/E representatives to ensure project is construed in accordance with design, budget, and schedule.
    • Do pre-punch list for each project and provide pictures and details to Superintendents and Project Management.
    • Work with Project Management to ensure materials or supplies are ordered on time and within budget.
    • Complete Daily Safety Inspection Checklists while on jobsites when Superintendent is not available to do it, and upload to Basecamp or PM software and server.
    • Stop the continuation of processes that are deemed harmful to the health of workers.
    • Assist in resolving construction problems (lack of productivity, work interfaces, etc.) as required.
    • Provide technical assistance, i.e., interpretation of policies, recommending safe demolition or installation methods and safe use of equipment, etc., as required.
    • Enforce Safety program and constantly work to achieve improvement and reduce accidents. Document and ensure corrective measures are implemented.
    • Represent company in project meetings in a professional manner; assist in labor negotiations/strategy meetings and orchestrate construction activities.
    • Perform additional assignments per supervisor’s direction.
    • Perform other job-related duties, as required.

    Education

    This position requires a high school diploma (or GED or high school equivalence certificate) and 8 years of supervisory experience in construction. BS Construction Management, Safety Management, Engineering, etc. a PLUS
