Interviews families to assess needs and their eligibility for assistance programs and services. Being a Family Support Counselor helps to navigate the application process and outlines the requirements and benefits of programs or services. Advises about types of counseling services available and makes referrals to service providers. Additionally, Family Support Counselor may require a bachelor's degree in human services related field. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Family Support Counselor work is closely managed. Works on projects/matters of limited complexity in a support role.     Southwest Youth and Family Services is seeking an experienced Counselor to join our counseling team. The ideal candidate will be part of a collaborative team who provides culturally relevant, high quality services within a community based behavioral health agency. This person must have experience providing strengths based services to Black/African American youth and their families.

    The Counselor is responsible for assessing the needs of clients and providing individual counseling, support groups, and referral services to youth and their families. 75% of our client population are enrolled Medicaid.

    This position is full time, 36 hours per week (non-exempt position),  with compensation being $25 hourly . Benefits include employer paid medical, dental, vision, disability, short term and long term disability insurance; and life insurance. Generous sick and vacation time including 10 paid holidays and a 2-week paid break in December. Some additional benefits include a fun & dedicated staff, flexible work schedule and free trainings opportunities. We have reasonable case load expectations. 

    Requirements

    • BA degree in Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, or related field  
    • Demonstrate a commitment to equity and social justice. 
    • Ability to work with diverse groups and cultures
    • Experience providing counseling services to Black/African American youth
    • Preferred experience with Medicaid
    • Ability to work as a team and independently
    • Effective written and verbal communication skills
    • Excellent follow-through and ability to meet deadlines
    • Must pass a Washington State Patrol Criminal Background Check
    • Valid WA State Driver’s license and reliable transportation
    • Clear driving record with no more than two moving violations in the last three years
    • Knowledge of and the ability to learn required electronic health record programs.
