Facilities Planner plans building or refurbishment projects focused on effectively utilizing spaces and resources to support the organization's physical facility and space needs. Conducts evaluations of current facilities to assess short-term and long-term space needs and produce feasibility studies. Being a Facilities Planner prepares and reviews designs, layout plans, specifications, and standards that comply with building regulations, industry best practices, and organizational requirements. Estimates costs for labor, materials, and services. Additionally, Facilities Planner generates, monitors, and updates project plans and timelines with task details, deliverables, and status updates. Coordinates construction and installation processes and expedites delivery of materials required by projects. May require a bachelor's degree or equivalent. Typically reports to a manager. The Facilities Planner occasionally directed in several aspects of the work. Gaining exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function. - Completes work assignments autonomously by applying up-to-date expertise in subject area to generate creative solutions; ensures all procedures and policies are followed; leverages an understanding of data and resources to support projects or initiatives. Collaborates cross-functionally to solve business problems; escalates issues or risks as appropriate; communicates progress and information. Supports, identifies, and monitors priorities, deadlines, and expectations. Identifies, speaks up, and implements ways to address improvement opportunities for team.
- Facilitates planning and design projects by: using judgment and discretion to interpret guidelines to assist with the resolution of non-standard problems. communicating between the project team and others inside and outside of the organization; and developing training materials for the team or consultants on strategies and concepts, coordination, and management of the support teams area of expertise.
- Supports NFS program deliverables by: working on components of National Facilities Services (NFS) initiatives and projects from initiation through design phase with close oversight from senior management; developing, analyzing, and executing project plans which include scope identification and management, schedule, inter-dependencies, and resource forecast; monitoring project performance (e.g., on time, within scope, and with quality) against plans and provides input and justification for costs and budget impact; managing project activities related to organizational change management (e.g., development and execution of user adoption, implementation, and training plans) as defined by the project; and allocating resources, establishes schedules, and makes task assignments.
- Contributes to consultants relationship management by: providing technical support and coordination to designers/drafters/engineers and architects/planners/engineers; and obtaining and applying comprehensive research knowledge on building codes and materials from vendor.
- Acts in compliance with KP requirements by: developing a full working knowledge of the enterprise facilities design standards development to ensure quality solutions.
