Facilities Manager manages the maintenance, construction, repair, and refurbishment operations of one or more facilities or properties. Implements policies and procedures that ensure the optimal functioning of buildings, grounds, and associated equipment. Being a Facilities Manager monitors daily building operations of all systems, including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, safety, and waste management to ensure reliability. Tracks work orders for quality, adherence to service standards, and budgeted guidelines. Additionally, Facilities Manager trains supervisors and employees in best practices for maintenance work, service and safety standards, and local laws and regulations. The Position
Under general direction, a Facilities Manager, plans, organizes, manages, and provides administrative direction and oversight for the Facilities Division within the Public Works Department, including City buildings, facilities, and a wide variety of public works projects and programs; assists with long- and short-term project planning; coordinates assigned activities with other City departments and outside agencies; and performs other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:Any combination of training and experience, which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities, is considered qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications is:
A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in business or public administration, operations management, construction management, or a related field.
AND
Five (5) years of increasingly responsible experience in fleet and facilities maintenance, including two (2) years of supervisory experience.
Special Requirements:
Valid Class C California Driver License and acceptable driving record at time of appointment and throughout employment in this position. Employees in this classification will be enrolled in the Department of Motor Vehicles Government Employer Pull Notice Program.
Must be able to work a flexible schedule to accommodate City needs.
California Government Code §3100 – 3109 requires that all public employees are to be declared disaster service workers and shall take and subscribe to the related oath or affirmation as required.
Candidates who successfully complete the assessment process for Facilities Manager will be placed on an eligible list for the respective classification, which will remain in effect for at least one year or until an insufficient number of candidates remain on the list.
Current City of Fullerton employees may be given preference during the testing and/or selection process.
All employment offers, including appointment offers to City of Fullerton employees, are conditional based upon the successful completion of a medical examination performed by the City's designated physician, at City expense. Medical exams are administered to assess an individual's ability to perform the physical requirements of this position. In addition, City of Fullerton employees appointed to safety sensitive classifications and all new hires will undergo a drug screen.
All new hires will be fingerprinted. Fingerprints are verified with the California Department of Justice (DOJ) and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
Current City of Fullerton employees may be given preference during the testing and/or selection process.All new hires, including non-regular City of Fullerton employees appointed to this position, will serve a one-year probationary period. Regular City of Fullerton employees promoted to this position will serve a six-month probationary period.
