Facilities Director manages the maintenance, construction, repair, and refurbishment operations of one or more facilities or properties. Implements policies and procedures that ensure the optimal functioning of buildings, grounds, and associated equipment. Being a Facilities Director monitors daily building operations of all systems, including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, safety, and waste management to ensure reliability. Tracks work orders for quality, adherence to service standards, and budgeted guidelines. Additionally, Facilities Director directs training of managers, supervisors, and employees in best practices for maintenance work, service and safety standards, and local laws and regulations. Oversees vendors or contractors engaged for construction projects. Typically requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a director. The Facilities Director typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Job Summary
Directs facility planning, operation and maintenance for a healthcare organization. Develops and executes strategic plans and long-range programs for facility management department. Consults with and advises senior management relative to facility operations to ensure optimal functioning. Works effectively with outside vendors and contractors to ensure compliance of vendor contracts within scope of work. The Director of Facilities oversees facility staff, vendors and contractors to ensure compliance with organizational and governmental regulations. Thorough understanding of all governing and accrediting bodies such as Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Joint Commission and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) standards.
Represents the facility at meetings with community organizations. Estimates, plans and controls budget. Assists in construction planning for facility. Works closely with safety leadership to ensure compliance with standards. Delivers high customer satisfaction and retention of profitable business through formal reports, and data analytics. Leads resolution across all areas within the operation organization. Responsible for integrity of buildings and structures concerning safety.
Responsible for the interviewing, hiring, discipline of employees and any other personnel issues that arise. Completes performance appraisals. Directs, motivates, develops and manages the performance of management team and key staff. Creates opportunities for individuals to exercise and grow new skills. Demonstrates the ability to provide strong leadership that mentors, develops and guides. Able to work with growth and development needs. Able to balance multiple complex projects and deadlines by determining critical issues, timelines, and priorities. Knowledge of federal, state, and local codes, specifications, and ordinances, as well as Sanford Health policies and procedures.
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree required. Area of focus in Industrial Technology, Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management or related field preferred.
Thorough knowledge of mechanical operations, electrical systems, plumbing and boiler operation, and general safety regulations. Five years management or supervisory experience in the health care industry preferably in physical plant operations preferred.
Valid Driver's License required. Must maintain good driving record. Certified Building Manager desired.
