Reads and interprets blueprints and diagrams to select, position, and secure machinery. Being an Extrusion Operator adjusts and cleans machines. Documents work performed as required. Additionally, Extrusion Operator may have to complete an apprenticeship and/or formal training in area of specialty. Requires a high school diploma or its equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor/manager. The Extrusion Operator possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job. JOB DESCRIPTION
An Extrusion Technician supports the goals of the Extrusion Department by ensuring proper and safe operation of machinery and mechanical equipment. The Extrusion Technician is responsible for proper setup and/or adjustment of machines to ensure constant and reliable machine operation. The Extrusion Technician is responsible for quickly alerting the Extrusion Supervisor for any and all repair needs.
The Extrusion Technician is responsible for continually observing and assessing machine operations; observes any necessary process and procedure improvements to machine operation; observes any necessary operator process and procedure improvements to enhance/boost production flow; communicates and recommends changes, as required, to the Extrusion Supervisor.
FUNCTIONS
• Reads and follows directions in Machine Manuals and Specification Sheets and applies directives
• Displays helpful, courteous, and respectful behavior toward all co-workers in the Extrusion Department and other departments
• Conducts root cause analyses, when required, to resolve machine issues
• Locates sources of problems by observing mechanical devices in operations; listens for problems; uses precision measuring and testing instruments, as needed
• Ensures operation of machinery and mechanical equipment, as trained
• Reports required machine adjustments/repairs to Extrusion Supervisor
• Helps avoid down time by performing preventive maintenance as assigned by the Extrusion Supervisor
• Cleans machinery and equipment after use, adjusting parts and lubricating moving components, as needed, to ensure proper, efficient function
• Examines and/or observes moving parts on an hourly/daily basis for signs of defect, damage and/or excessive wear
