POSITION SUMMARY
Responsible for the coordination of all activities and projects associated with the following Laboratory areas: Reference Lab build, send outs and testing, developing, and maintaining the LabCorp CTA, new hire and annual laboratory education to include OSHA training, Laboratory Information System (LIS and EPIC Beaker credentialed trainer), DI interface, laboratory billing, QI/PI (performance improvement), CAP and DNV compliance, safety and meaningful use. In conjunction with the Lab Management Staff, develops short- and long-range objectives for the above areas listed. Ensures compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements and standards of practice.
EDUCATION
Bachelor’s or associate degree in medical laboratory technology, applied science or a comparable science degree. Certified Medical Technologist/Medical Laboratory Technician (MT/MLT, ASCP, AMT or AAB). Meets CLIA requirements for highly complex work and ability to train MTs, MLTs, HT/HTL and phlebotomists in the above areas.
EXPERIENCE
Previous experience with education and LIS, DI interface, laboratory billing, QI/PI, CLIA, CAP and DNV compliance, lab safety and meaningful use preferred. Must have a minimum of 5 years technical experience in the clinical lab. Must possess effective organizational and communication skills. Must possess a valid and current driver’s license.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Position requires a comprehensive and working knowledge of Medical Laboratory Technology; laboratory billing; use of ICD-10 codes; meaningful use; laboratory QI/PI; use of laboratory LIS and how to add/delete tests in the system and how to validate them and bring them live; knowledge of LOINC and SQL codes; knowledge of building and validating reference lab testing; familiar will building and pulling reports to satisfy certain metrics for State reportables, quality, and performance improvement. The individual will serve as a subject matter expert for laboratory safety, OSHA, compliance with CLIA, CAP and DNV. Individual should be a credentialed trainer with EPIC and serve as a subject matter expert for training in EPIC. Individual should have a thorough knowledge of the ACA process. They will lead the laboratory through the process when an ACA is required, and they will work closely with Risk Management to close the loop and provide all necessary documentation. Individual should have good communication skills and the ability to problem solve. They should remain in good standing with their MT/MLT certification agency.
Individual should have a working knowledge of CAP standards and have the ability to conduct site visits if needed. The position will require the ability to multi-task and also to work well with other laboratories with whom we have a contractual relationship to provide testing. This position requires a high level of organization and the ability to provide monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, and annual reports to various groups within the organization. This position will also require logical thinking and project management abilities.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
This position requires the individual to be well organized, well-spoken and the ability to work through issues as they arise involving laboratory services. The ideal candidate will work closely with the Laboratory Director to continue to grow our outpatient business.
WORKING CONDITIONS - ADA INFORMATION
Modern hospital Laboratory. Work activities will include light lifting (not to exceed 25 pounds), walking, sitting, standing, stooping, bending, twisting and pushing objects. Must be able to operate office equipment, computer terminals and keyboards, and computerized lab equipment. Works with blood and body fluids where exposure to infections disease is a risk. Must have knowledge of Safety Data Sheets (SDS), OSHA laboratory compliance and training in handling of hazardous chemicals. Complies with biohazard safety standards and laboratory policy and procedures through proper handling of potentially hazardous chemical, biological agents in the workplace. Uses standard safety precautions to protect self and co-workers from biohazardous materials, including blood-borne pathogens. Certain procedures will require knowledge of the correct use of eye protection, face shields, lab coats, and /or gloves (latex and nitrile).
