    JOIN US:

    We are in an exciting period of evolution focused on power-building, the re-imagining of our channels of impact in Oakland and beyond. We are looking for a contract-based Grant Writer who can join and grow with us as a founding member of the new direction we are uncovering as an organization. In this role, you will support the fundraising efforts of our organization through the identification, procurement, construction, submission, and execution of quality grantmaking to win funding from a variety of local, regional, and national sources.
     

    OBJECTIVE:

    • To support Alena Museum with the successful awarding of grant funding through local, regional, and national grantmaking opportunities. 
     

    CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Identify and track new & prior grant opportunities on a year-round basis. 
    • Manage and continually update a Grants & Reporting Calendar to ensure Alena Museum is on top of all grantmaking efforts. 
    • Identify, Research, and Select unique and applicable grant opportunities to pursue. 
    • Build relationships with grantmakers and program officers that represent their respective grant programs. 
    • Construct and Write quality grants, then submit them on behalf of Alena Museum. 
    • Track and follow up on all reporting needs, including the writing & construction of reports, and any grant administrative follow up that may be needed. 
    • Storytell the legacy of displacement and gentrification on the Black & African Diasporic community in Oakland. 
    • Revise and reconstruct existing grant language to be in line with our cultural and spiritual focus at Alena Museum. 
    • Bottom Line: write successful grants that award Alena Museum with funding. 
     

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • 2 years of experience in Grant Writing OR demonstrated impact. 
    • Demonstrable success with nonprofit fundraising.
    • Knowledge of non-profit business models, and org practices.
    • Experience with cultural programming, and Black History.
    • Leadership experience and familiarity with working independently.
