Exercise Physiologist develops, implements, and evaluates exercise programs for patients. Conducts testing that assesses cardiovascular and metabolic effects of exercise for cardiac and musculoskeletal rehabilitation. Being an Exercise Physiologist follows testing protocols and selects appropriate testing protocol for the patient. Monitors patient during testing. Additionally, Exercise Physiologist calculates and records testing results. Coordinates with cross-functional patient care teams. May design exercise prescriptions, instructional materials, home exercise guidelines, and discharge instructions. Conducts exercise training sessions for patients. Requires a bachelor's degree in exercise physiology. Typically reports to a manager. The Exercise Physiologist work is generally independent and collaborative in nature. Assess, treats, educates, and evaluates patients and care plans, implements, and documents patient care related to cardiopulmonary and vascular rehabilitation in accordance with all established standards. Provides expertise in the areas of exercise and strengthening. Monitors patient safety and physiologic response to exercise in all phases of cardiac, vascular and pulmonary rehabilitation. Proficient in dysrhythmia recognition and key interpretation.
Education
Bachelor's degree in Kinesiology, Health Education, Physical Education or Exercise Physiology with a Cardiac Rehab emphasis is required.
Master’s degree in Kinesiology, Health Education, Physical Education or Exercise physiology with a Cardiac Rehab emphasis preferred.
Experience
1 year of Exercise Physiology or Cardiac Rehab is preferred.
Certifications, Licenses and Registrations
Basic Life Support (BLS) is required.
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) is obtained within 6 months of hire is required.
