Exercise Physiologist develops, implements, and evaluates exercise programs for patients. Conducts testing that assesses cardiovascular and metabolic effects of exercise for cardiac and musculoskeletal rehabilitation. Being an Exercise Physiologist follows testing protocols and selects appropriate testing protocol for the patient. Monitors patient during testing. Additionally, Exercise Physiologist calculates and records testing results. Coordinates with cross-functional patient care teams. May design exercise prescriptions, instructional materials, home exercise guidelines, and discharge instructions. Conducts exercise training sessions for patients. Requires a bachelor's degree in exercise physiology. Typically reports to a manager. The Exercise Physiologist work is generally independent and collaborative in nature. Primary responsibilities is the calculation of a safe and effective exercise prescription in Cardiac Rehabilitation, development of quality group exercise programming that maximizes training self-progression and self-monitoring while individuating the process to a broad spectrum of exercise abilities.
Within the Cardiac & Pulmonary Rehabilitation responsibilities include teaching to the current AACVPR guidelines, current evidence based risk reduction strategies. As the Exercise Physiologist provides continuity within specific areas of clinical exercise to all staff members in the gym.
Demonstrates initiative, ownership, respect, innovation, flexibility, and independence to assure appropriate service delivery in a changing healthcare environment. The Exercise Physiologist will prescribe, implement and supervise the physical exercise program for Cardiac Rehabilitation.
