Executive Steward jobs in Kannapolis, NC

The Land Steward is responsible for performing horticultural duties involved in the preparation and maintenance of plants to include preparation of soils, planting, propagating, pruning, mulching, weeding, watering, and treatment of pest issues as required. Maintaining facilities, working in the landscape, equipment operation, creating and repairing infrastructure and maintaining landscapes are the cornerstones for this position. Interest or willingness to learn about sustainable farming and practices a plus. As such, the Land Steward will be able to perform basic upkeep tasks with minimal supervision or direction. Physical strength, endurance, and attention to detail are essential.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Care for established lawns by aerating, weeding, grubbing, removing thatch, trimming, and edging around flower beds, walks, or walls.
• Plant seeds, bulbs, foliage, flowering plants, grass, ground covers, trees, or shrubs and apply mulch for protection, using gardening tools.
• Mow or edge lawns, using power mowers or edger.
• Use ground maintenance equipment such as shovels, rakes, pruning shears, saws, hedge, or brush trimmers, and/or axes.
• Operate company owned vehicles, tractors, and utility carts, and other equipment as assigned.
• Tend to seasonal needs of walkways and parking lots, as well as site-specific structures like fences and buildings.
• Report all landscaping/grounds issues to the Head Horticulturist in a timely manner.
• Inspect equipment, vehicles, including ATVs, prior to use.
• Adhere to quality standards and safety regulations.
• Assist Juneberry Ridge team by working at one guest event monthly, as part of total hours/week, as needed.
• Any other duties needed to help drive our Vison, fulfill our Mission, and abide by our company Values.

A Typical Day:

• Expect that the majority of your day will be spent outside in the elements.
• Teamwork and individual responsibilities vary from day to day.
• Be prepared to work on one large job all day or move from many small tasks throughout the day.
• Regular equipment operation (mower, backhoe, tractor, excavator, skid steer).

Qualifications and Education Requirements

• Must be able to perform basic gardening tasks of weeding, pruning, mulching.
• Valid Driver’s License with a reliable source of transportation to and from farm.
• Comfortable working in extreme weather fluctuations
• Physical stamina and dexterity, with ability to lift 50 pounds.
• Ability to operate hand tools and/or powered equipment.
• Ability to operate heavy equipment.
• Heavy Equipment Operator’s Certification preferred.
• Able to meet project deadlines.
• Willingness to work on weekends.
• Must pass background check.
