Analyzes project requirements, plans, and specifications to identify labor, material, equipment, and service requirements. Being a Estimator - Cost uses benchmark data, trends, prior estimates, and historical pricing schedules to generate detailed cost estimates that consist of itemized lists of expenses, labor hours, material quantities, and potential cost variations. Depending on the complexity and type of project, may use different estimating methods, mathematical models, or specialized estimating software tools to generate estimates. Additionally, Estimator - Cost provides guidance and training on estimating best practices. May require a bachelor's degree or equivalent. Typically reports to a manager. Working team member that may validate or coordinate the work of others on a support team. Suggests improvements to process, is a knowledge resource for other team members. JOB SUMMARY
Responsible for developing estimates of materials, labor, and other costs necessary to complete customer orders and projects. Prepares, coordinates, reviews, and distributes project estimates.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Computes cost estimates for materials, equipment, subcontracted work, labor, etc. to assist with bidding or pricing a project.
- Utilizes blueprints and specifications and knowledge of the construction industry to analyze project needs and compile cost estimates.
- Reviews all contract documents to become familiar with project requirements and obligations under the contract and applies to pricing (schedule, specifications, drawings, safety manual, etc.).
- Submits requests (RFIs) for estimating questions by deadline.
- Reviews purchase orders, subcontracts and contracts for accuracy.
- Estimates change order costs for Account Manager to prepare and submit the request to the customer.
- Prepares reports and analysis pertinent to construction estimating, as requested by management.
