Estimator - Cost develops cost estimates for projects based on work scope, specifications, and contract proposals using applicable estimating methodologies and tools. Analyzes project requirements, plans, and specifications to identify labor, material, equipment, and service requirements. Being a Estimator - Cost uses benchmark data, trends, prior estimates, and historical pricing schedules to generate detailed cost estimates that consist of itemized lists of expenses, labor hours, material quantities, and potential cost variations. Depending on the complexity and type of project, may use different estimating methods, mathematical models, or specialized estimating software tools to generate estimates. Additionally, Estimator - Cost provides guidance and training on estimating best practices. May require a bachelor's degree or equivalent. Typically reports to a manager. Working team member that may validate or coordinate the work of others on a support team. Suggests improvements to process, is a knowledge resource for other team members. The Cost Accountant is responsible for accurate product costing through the management and maintenance of the standard cost system. The Cost Accountant will work with Operations and Procurement to identify areas for efficiency improvements and cost savings. Other responsibilities include the daily processing of cost expenditures, cap-ex management, month-end and year-end close activities, and participation in the annual budgeting process. This position reports directly to the Controller and will collaborate with all levels of the organization.
Primary Responsibilities
- Lead the annual standard cost update and inventory revaluation
- Create and maintain all bill of materials and routings within the standard cost system
- Create, modify and obsolete product codes
- Perform all material and routing cost rollups
- Analyze and report material, labor, overhead and purchase price variances
- Investigate and identify cost optimization opportunities
- Close monthly manufacturing and expense work orders
- Compute annual inventory reserve
- Process vendor cost expenditures through Accounts Payable
- Assist with supplier information requests
- Track and report vendor price increases and activity
- Maintain fixed asset records, depreciation and report capital spending
- Provide backup support to Purchasing and Operations as needed.
- Maintain vendor contracts
- Prepare journal entries
- Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts
- KPI reporting
- Assist with year-end activities including financial audit and tax reporting
- Assist with the annual budgeting process
- Supports the Controller and Operations Management Team
