Estimating Director leads the estimating function and develops standards, procedures, tools, and methodologies to produce cost estimates for technical projects based on work scope, specifications, and proposal or contract requirements. Establishes processes to perform analysis of project requirements, plans, and specifications to identify labor, material, equipment, and service requirements. Being an Estimating Director incorporates benchmark data, trends, and historical pricing to generate detailed cost estimates that consist of itemized lists of expenses, labor hours, material quantities, and potential cost variations. Develops a workflow and system for scheduling and processing estimate requests and communicating with stakeholders. Additionally, Estimating Director depending on the complexity and type of project, may use different estimating methods, mathematical models, or specialized estimating software tools to generate estimates. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to senior management. The Estimating Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be an Estimating Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function.     The Estimating Intern is responsible for supporting and working alongside with the estimating team to gain invaluable experience applying their knowledge and skills learned through their education.

    Explore your tasks and responsibilities
    • Assist in Quantity Takeoffs:
    • Work closely with the estimating team to perform quantity takeoffs from construction drawings and specifications.
    • Utilize software tools and spreadsheets to accurately calculate material quantities and project costs. Data Entry and Analysis:
    • Input data into estimating software and maintain accurate and up-to-date records.
    • Assist in analyzing historical project data to support the development of accurate cost estimates. Cost Research:
    • Conduct research to gather information on material costs, labor rates, and other relevant pricing data.
    • Collaborate with team members to stay informed about industry trends and changes in pricing. Communication:
    • Communicate effectively with team members, subcontractors, and suppliers to gather necessary information and clarify details related to estimates.
    • Attend meetings and contribute insights as needed. Learning and Development:
    • Actively participate in training sessions and learning opportunities to enhance knowledge of construction estimating processes and industry best practices. Ad Hoc Support:
    • Provide general support to the estimating team as needed, including administrative tasks and project coordination.
    Show your expertise
    • Pursing a Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field required
    • At least a 3.0 GPA preferred
    • Must be at least in Junior year of college
    • Prior experience as an intern in a project team environment preferred
    • Current enrollment in a relevant degree program (e.g., Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, etc.).
    • Strong attention to detail and analytical skills.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
    • Familiarity with construction drawings and specifications is a plus.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
    • Eagerness to learn and contribute to the success of the team.
