Estimating Director leads the estimating function and develops standards, procedures, tools, and methodologies to produce cost estimates for technical projects based on work scope, specifications, and proposal or contract requirements. Establishes processes to perform analysis of project requirements, plans, and specifications to identify labor, material, equipment, and service requirements. Being an Estimating Director incorporates benchmark data, trends, and historical pricing to generate detailed cost estimates that consist of itemized lists of expenses, labor hours, material quantities, and potential cost variations. Develops a workflow and system for scheduling and processing estimate requests and communicating with stakeholders. Additionally, Estimating Director depending on the complexity and type of project, may use different estimating methods, mathematical models, or specialized estimating software tools to generate estimates. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to senior management. The Estimating Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be an Estimating Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function.     Primary Function:

    As the Director of Estimating, you will be a key player in planning, coordinating, supervising, and actively participating in the company's estimating program. This role will involve providing technical and administrative direction to ensure the achievement of corporate objectives, reporting directly to the VP of the Tender Department.

    Location:

    This is a full-time, onsite position based in Boston.

    Skills, Knowledge, Qualifications, and Experience:

    - Bachelor's Degree (4 years) in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Construction Engineering, or equivalent.

    - 10 or more years of experience in a similar role, estimating, cost control, and construction engineering within the heavy civil construction and foundation industry.

    - Proficiency in estimating techniques, cost control, interpreting computerized cost data, and essential systems.

    - Proficiency in using HCSS Heavy Bid and Excel.

    - Previous experience working with Oracle Primavera P6.

    - Excellent organizational, supervisory, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.

    - Strong interpersonal skills, including excellent verbal and written communication.

    - Ability to work effectively in a dynamic and challenging environment.

    Activities and Responsibilities:

    1. Establishment of Policies: Develop overall estimating department policy and direction within the corporate objectives guided by the President.

    2. Department Management: Manage and administer department functions, including operating budgets, staffing, wage reviews, work assignments, and performance evaluations.

    3. Collaboration and Strategy: Collaborate with corporate and project management to determine the types of projects to bid, strategies, and techniques.

    4. Engagement Meetings: Attend pre-bid meetings, conduct site visits, and participate in post-bid meetings to discuss and negotiate the scope of work.

    5. Solution Recommendations: Review design options and recommend the best solution based on cost, engineering quality, or availability of resources.

    6. Estimate Package Assistance: Participate in reviewing and assisting in the preparation of final estimate packages to ensure accuracy and completeness before formal quotation and presentation.

    7. Proposal Development: Contribute to the development of proposals and presentations.

    8. Presentations and Sales: Participate in presentations to other corporate managers and clients and may be responsible for closing the "sale” as a member of the corporate management team.

    9. Contract Negotiation: Provide administrative and technical direction in negotiating contracts, change orders, etc., as required.

    10. Supervision: Supervise the preparation of studies, materials and methods, recommendations, and cost estimates as required.

    11. Flexibility: Perform additional assignments as directed by the President or Executive Vice President.
