    Basic Purpose:

    Under the direction of the Director of Agronomy, the Equipment Manager provides leadership, direction and technical knowledge to efficiently perform all preventative and corrective service relating to gasoline-and diesel-powered vehicles, mowing equipment, tractors, carts and all other equipment used to maintain or provide service. The Equipment Manager is also responsible for the organization and cleanliness of the service area and maintenance building, organization of and implementation of a preventative maintenance program while placing safety procedures as a top priority.


    Essential Functions:

    1. Ordering of parts and management of a complete parts inventory, including monthly counts and computerized records, while maintaining budget adherence.
    2. Prioritizing repairs as needed.
    3. Maintain complete vehicle and equipment records including preventative and corrective repairs, following manufacturer recommended service.
    4. Training of preventative maintenance, operation, and safety of the equipment with employees and other Mechanics.
    5. Address safety issues relating to equipment and shop safety through field observation, staff communications and operation of equipment when necessary.
    6. Communicates any needs or problems relating to maintenance or repair of equipment with the Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent and/or Landscape Manager.
    7. Inspects, diagnoses, adjusts and repairs mechanical defects/failures in various pieces of equipment on a regular basis.
    8. Prioritizes equipment repair and maintenance work.
    9. Sets up and modifies new equipment as needed.
    10. Develops and implements comprehensive reel maintenance program, ensuring all reels and blades are sharp and within manufacturer tolerances.
    11. Keeps maintenance equipment fueled, oiled and inspected; and performs related tasks as required.
    12. Diagnoses electrical and hydraulic problems taking appropriate action if necessary.
    13. Knowledge of the general operations of gasoline, diesel, electric and hydraulically powered equipment, the proper methods of servicing golf course equipment, and the repair and adjustment of power mowing equipment.
    14. Maintains a clean, safe work environment.
    15. Maintain a clean and well-organized parts inventory room.
    16. Adhering to the proper recycling and/or disposal of tires, metals, various oils, compounds, and other fluids (antifreeze, oil filters, etc.)
    17. Assisting in an effective, daily inspection of golf course maintenance equipment.
    18. Interview, review, coach, train and discipline mechanic staff.
    19. Knowledge of grinding techniques for reel mowers.

    Knowledge & Skills:


    Education: High School Education or equivalent experience


    Experience: Minimum three (3) years as Head Equipment Manager at a comparable golf course facility.


    Licenses/Certifications:

    1. Valid state driver's license
    2. First-Aid Certification
    3. Trained user of TORO MyTurf Software

    Skills & Abilities:

    Reading and writing skills required. Ability to operate and implement basic computer functions including but not limited to basic Microsoft Word and Excel functions, email and data entry.


    Ability to move heavy objects, work in a variety of weather conditions while repairing equipment, understand and follow oral and written directions, maintain cooperative working relationships with other employees and the public, and be able to use common mechanical tools. Posses a working knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of the profession.
