    • Operates graders and compaction road rollers to maintain and repair secondary roads and firebreaks, providing rough-cut to finish surfaces.
    • Operates full tracked dozers equipped with both angle and straight blades and rippers.
    • Prepares road subgrades, develops rock pits, maintains fire breaks, clears brush, performs road closures, and erosion control projects, heavy earth moving projects, and rangeland restoration.
    • The incumbent operates backhoes, large excavators, and front-end loaders to perform road maintenance projects, rock pit loading operations, and erosion control and restoration projects.
    • Operates tractor-trailers (gross vehicle weight approx. 100,000 lb.) and 8 to 12 cubic yard capacity dump trucks to haul dirt, rock, debris, erosion control and drainage materials, and heavy equipment, and to distribute water.

    • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
    • This position requires that the incumbent must complete a pre-placement medical examination before assignment to the position.
    • This position requires that the incumbent is able to lift 50 lbs.
    • This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to applicant testing and random drug testing per AR 600-85.
    • Tentatively selected applicants will be required to sign DA Form 5019 under the Department of the Army Drug-Free Federal Workplace Program) requiring participation in random drug testing as a condition of employment.
    • The incumbent must obtain and then continue to maintain the National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG) Wildland Firefighter Certification per command requirements.
    • Must meet the minimum requirements for a light work capacity test which consists of a 1-mile walk completed within 16 minutes.
    • This position requires that the incumbent must wear protective clothing and other safety equipment.
    • This position may require overtime or on-call emergency.
    • Must have and maintain a valid Class A Commercial Driver license prior to onboarding. (You must upload a copy of your license, or you will be removed from consideration)

Working under supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who reviews work for completion. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

    • Physical Efforts: A heavy physical effort is used through constant bending, reaching, turning, and moving of hands, arms, feet, and legs to handle different sets of controls. A considerable strain is caused by constant vibration and jerking and jolting from operations over rough surfaces. Frequently required to work in awkward or strained positions. Must meet the minimum requirements for a light work capacity test which consists of a 1-mile walk completed within 16 minutes.
    • Working Conditions: The incumbent works in all types of weather (hot, dry, cold, wet, windy) often in open driver's seat or platform on hills, slopes, grades, and rolling surfaces. Exposed to possible cuts, bruises, scrapes, sprains, when operating and handling equipment, and injury due to possible overturning of equipment. Subject to noise, vibration, dust, dirt, and fumes.

    Education

    Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone - no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
