    Position Summary


    Manages and directs all aspects of the operations of Durable Medical Equipment (DME) in University of Iowa Home Care including the retail store within the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, the Sleep Solutions store located in Iowa River Landing, ancillary consignment closet area locations across UI Health Care locations and our external vendor DME contracts. Duties include managing and mentoring staff, developing policies and procedures; ensuring accreditation is achieved and maintained. Monitors adherence to state, federal and payer regulations. Develops budget to assure overall financial results. Participates in strategic projects to grow DME support across UI Health Care locations.


    This position reports directly to the Executive Director of UI Home Care. This position has supervisory oversight of the DME service line staff.

    Position Responsibilities


    • Human Resources Management:
    • Hire, develop and manage the performance of staff in a departmental unit or functional division.
    • Perform performance evaluations.
    • Establish work schedule and assignments for staff according to workload requirements.
    • Assure that all division members are respected and treated consistent with University policies.
    • Financial and Data Management and Analysis:
    • Prepare budget development; provide projections and recommendations.
    • Manage financial and productivity data and monitor budget to meet goals.
    • Resolve budget discrepancies.
    • Create business plans for new ventures.
    • Operations, Standards of Care, Regulatory Compliance, Quality and Patient Satisfaction:
    • Develop departmental policies and procedures that assure compliance with DME requirements and guidelines.
    • Identify trends and determine QA priorities.
    • Recommend QA and patient/customer satisfaction strategies.
    • Develop and monitor plans to enhance patient satisfaction.
    • Achieve and maintain accreditation for all locations.
    • Maintain oversight over all payer enrollments. Oversight may include initial enrollment, credentialing and/or recredentialing.
    • Maintain compliance with State, Federal, ACHC-Accreditation Commission for Health Care and external regulations.
    • Patient Services Delivery:
    • Identify needs, trends, and forecasts in order to provide needed durable medical equipment to meet inpatient and outpatient needs.
    • Planning and Goal Management:
    • Develop action plans for division that meet strategic goals.
    • Provide progress reports to executive director.
    • Identifies new business opportunities based on research and analysis. Specific responsibilities include concept development & analysis; preparing volume and financial projections; working with operations on program implementation.
    • Communication/Collaboration:
    • Collaborate on supply/product inventory
    • Collaborates with various UI Health Care departments and other customers to assure patient DME home-going supply/product needs are met.
    • Executes effective marketing planning and campaigns for new and existing products and services that create a differentiation in the market, yields profitable business results and builds loyalty. Able to formulate budgets and expenditure plans for marketing initiatives
    • Education Programs:
    • Provide education to staff, prescribers and other stakeholders on DME processes.

    Education Requirements


    Bachelor’s degree in business or related field required, masters’ in business or related health care field preferred.


    Experience Requirements


    • 5 years of experience in Durable Medical Equipment required.
    • 3 years of supervisory experience required.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
    • Knowledge of basic computer systems including word, excel, and specialized software programs specific to health care and/or DME.
    • Regular and reliable attendance.
