Equipment Director directs the management of company equipment including procurement activities, preventative maintenance, repair/replacement and safety assurance. Manages the records, licenses, inspections, warrantees, and service agreements for the organization's equipment and tools. Being an Equipment Director minimizes organizational cost through product standardization and tracking. Document and tracks equipment performance throughout the product lifetime. Additionally, Equipment Director requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to top management. The Equipment Director typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments. To be an Equipment Director typically requires 3+ years of managerial experience.     Reports To: Used Equipment Manager

    Department: Sales, Exempt

    Location: West Columbia or Savannah

                                                                                                   

    Summary of Primary Functions

    This position is responsible for assisting in the used equipment processes for the Dobbs Equipment SE Region. This individual will maintain communication with various departments throughout the process from check in through retail sale. They will also be responsible for marketing of used equipment inventory online and through advertising partners. 
      

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities: May include some or all of the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

    • Manage the complete life cycle of an inbound and outbound equipment trades, used equipment purchases and lease returns 
    • Monitor all incoming and outgoing equipment trades utilizing John Deere’s Machine Finder asset program 
    • Check in and verify condition of all used equipment and ensure attachments listed with trade valuation are with the machine
    • Report any discrepancies to Used Equipment Manager 
    •  Ensure photographs are taken of inbound trades 
    • Create and manage work orders for service, sales, demos, and rentals 
    • Track all changes and discuss progress with Used Equipment Manager 
    • Collaborate with multiple departments for scheduling and delivery 
    • Verify products are ready for shipment and follow up on service schedule 
    • Consistently follow up and assist to ensure timely Sales, service and transportation dates are adhered to 
    • Disseminate the complete transaction to the appropriate departments for each phase of the transaction 
    •  Work and communicate closely with the Rental, Receiving, Service, Parts, and Sales departments to track all trades 
    • Show used equipment to walk in customers 
    • Inspect potential trades from time to time 
    • Field inbound used equipment sales leads and forward to appropriate salesman and sales manager 

     

    Qualifications: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

    • Valid Drivers License
    • Industry experience
    • Customer Service experience
    • Sales/Service experience

     

    Education, Skill, and/or Experience Requirements:

    • High school diploma or equivalent with one-year post high school education in heavy equipment or two years mechanical experience as a service technician.
    • A 2-year degree and familiarity with industrial equipment, such as construction or forestry equipment is preferred.
    • Organization and communication skills must be highly developed.
    • Computer skills need to be broad based.


    Language Skills:

     

    Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

     

    Mathematical Skills:

    • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. 
    • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra, statistics, and geometry.

    Reasoning Ability:

    • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
    • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, and outside weather conditions.  The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
