Being an Epidemiologist reviews sterilization, disinfection and waste control techniques and recommends changes as needed. Develops and coordinates effective and practical interventions and procedures to control and prevent disease in the community or facility. Additionally, Epidemiologist typically requires a master's degree of microbiology. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Epidemiologist contributes to moderately complex aspects of a project. Work is generally independent and collaborative in nature.     Main Purpose of Job

    The main purpose of the Epidemiologist II position is to provide support for all data and analysis-related efforts within the Maryland Medical Cannabis Commission (MMCC), specifically within the division of Public Health Research and Education. This position assists with oversight, coordination, collection, implementation, analysis, and maintenance of legislatively required comprehensive studies of cannabis use in Maryland and additional studies of Maryland’s medical cannabis patient population. The Epidemiologist interprets data, prepares reports and consumer-friendly data products; disseminates data to internal and external partners and stakeholders; proposes policy and programmatic recommendations based on data trends; coordinates with other agencies; and provides data to partners and stakeholders.\r\n

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    Education:�� A Master’s degree in the field of Public Health from an accredited college or university with a minimum of three graduate courses in Epidemiology and one graduate course in Biostatistics.\r\nExperience: Two years of experience in designing and conducting epidemiological studies and investigations for disease surveillance as an Epidemiologist after receipt of the Master’s degree. \r\nNote:�Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service�experience as a commissioned officer in Health Care Science classifications or Clinical Lab, Medical Scientists, or�Bio Medical Lab Officer specialty codes in the health research field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required education.\r\n

    BENEFITS

    \r\n\r\nContractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.\r\nLeave may be granted to a contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12 month period. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.\r\n\r\n\r\n
