Environmental Manager oversees the analysis and evaluation of air, water, and land systems to determine if pollutants are present and directs the implementation of appropriate corrective action if necessary. Develops and plans policies and procedures related to air, water, and land systems in accordance with organization and government rules and regulations. Being an Environmental Manager evaluates operations and makes recommendations to reduce waste or pollution. Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering or related discipline. Additionally, Environmental Manager typically reports to head of a unit/department. The Environmental Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be an Environmental Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required.   • Responsibilities:

    • Material Identification and Risk Assessment:
    • Identify materials that may contain toxic or hazardous substances listed in Subpart Z of 2.1 before work commences.
    • Conduct initial determinations of potential personnel exposure to these materials and document the findings.
    • Provide signed documentation (by a competent person as defined in 29 CFR 1915.4) to the supervisor upon request.
    • Compliance with Regulations:
    • Ensure all work operations involving toxic or hazardous substances comply with the requirements of 2.1.
    • Oversee the safe use, removal, and disturbance of existing hazardous materials.
    • Process and Procedure Development:
    • Develop or review processes and procedures for work activities with potential exposure to hazardous substances, addressing the following:
    • Exposure monitoring
    • Method of compliance
    • Engineering and work practice controls
    • Respiratory protection and protective clothing
    • Housekeeping and hygiene practices
    • Medical surveillance
    • Employee information and training
    • Signage and recordkeeping
    • Plan for control or removal of hazardous substances within budget and resource limitations (as specified in Attachment A).
    • Submit documented processes/procedures and estimated costs to the supervisor upon request.
    • Communication and Coordination:
    • Provide timely (4-24 hours prior) notice to the supervisor and designated representative about work requiring regulated areas (e.g., lead work, asbestos work).
    • Post clear and informative notices at designated locations regarding ongoing work involving hazards.
    • Notify the designated representative about weekend/holiday work plans in advance.
    • Hazard Control and Mitigation:
    • Implement measures to isolate and blank ventilation systems in work areas, preventing contamination of other spaces.
    • Establish regulated areas with restricted access when hazardous substance concentrations exceed permissible limits.

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Public Health, Safety Management, or a related field.
    • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in environmental compliance or hazardous materials management.
    • In-depth knowledge of relevant environmental regulations and standards (e.g., OSHA, EPA, Navy regulations).
    • Demonstrated understanding of industrial hygiene principles and exposure control measures.
    • Strong proficiency in developing and implementing safety procedures and protocols.
    • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    • Attention to detail and commitment to a safety-first culture.

    Job Type: Full-time

    Pay: $94,596.00 - $100,459.00 per year
