Environmental, Health and Safety Director oversees organizational compliance with local, state and federal environment, health and safety regulations. Ensures that environmental policy and procedure manuals are available and updated at all times. Being an Environmental, Health and Safety Director ensures compliance with all environmental, health and safety regulations, and keeps abreast of any changes to laws and regulations that impact the organization. Ensures projects are completed on time and within budget. Additionally, Environmental, Health and Safety Director requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a unit/department head. The Environmental, Health and Safety Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function.     The Director, Safety Health, Environmental & Quality (SHEQ) Compliance at S.C. Johnson & Son, Inc. in Racine, WI will work as an individual contributor to develop global manufacturing processes that promote safe, healthy, and environmentally conscious product manufacturing in furtherance of our commitment to a more sustainable world.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    This role will:

    • Lead the development and maintenance of SCJ's Hypercare audit program, which aims to develop audit protocols, analytical tools, and communication methods for high-risk manufacturing sites across all SCJ business units.
    • Develop audit protocols and analytical tools to assess the compliance of engineering systems across SCJ manufacturing sites.
    • Develop protocols and methodology to measure and interpret manufacturing system audit data.
    • Work with third-party suppliers to conduct bi-annual manufacturing site audits and prepare an analysis report to review with senior leadership.
    • Use audit protocols to identify safety, health, and environmental concerns with the manufacturing process and identify improvement opportunities for safety performance.
    • Identify the strategic implications for manufacturing site audits and critique audit protocols and assessments for effectiveness and efficiency.
    • Lead Hypercare Audits, including notification, scheduling, communication, onsite audit, reporting, Corrective Action Preventative Action (CAPA) generation and follow-up.
    • Provide training to division, business unit, and site Safety, Health, and Environment (SHE) engineering, and operations resources on the Hypercare audit program.
    • This position requires 30% domestic and international travel.

    Required Skills / Experience / Competencies:

    • Bachelor's degree in chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related Engineering field, plus three (3) years in a chemical processing, water systems, and sanitary designs occupation in the aerosol and liquid technology Fast-Moving Consumer Goods industry.
    • Experience must include three (3) years of experience with each of the following: (1) Good manufacturing practices (GMPs); (2) enterprise risk assessment program implementation; (3) hazard analysis and critical control point (HAACP); (4) lead cross-functional teams on global process engineering projects; (5) install automated systems, sensors, processing skids, and flow indicators; (6) engineer project startups involving water systems and processing equipment; (7) interpret process and instrumentation diagrams; (8) lead a cross-functional global project, including working with suppliers and vendors outside of the U.S.; and (9) prepare investment justification for water/ processing capital projects.
