    What to Expect

    Tesla is seeking an ambitious environmental compliance and engineering professional to join the Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Team at the Gigafactory Nevada facility campus. The role will support regulatory permitting, day-to-day operations and associated environmental aspects/impacts improvements. Their work will ensure compliance, continuous risk reduction, and capitalization on opportunities to make Giga Nevada an outstanding example of environmental management across the region and the company.

    The Sr. Environmental Engineer will develop, implement, and continuously improve programs within the EHS Management System framework in partnership with the broader EHS and Infrastructure teams. They will ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental, health, and safety regulations, and conformance to internal and industry standards.

    What You'll Do
    • Ensure Tesla operates it's Giga Nevada manufacturing facilities in compliance with all federal, state, and local environmental regulations and regional and Global Tesla standards. Represent Tesla during inspections, audits, and inquiries conducted by internal and external organizations
    • Proactively identify, assess, and mitigate environmental risks - both compliance as well as performance related - by participating in management of change processes as well as through self-inspections and audits
    • Support the application and data gathering process for environmental permitting, with a specialization in air, water or waste
    • Coordinate and support the preparation of environmental reports, Toxic Release Inventory (TRI), Tier 2 Reports, hazardous waste biennial reporting, and wastewater Discharge Monitoring Reports (DMRs), air compliance reports, Support the Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPP), and Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) programs, etc
    • Perform compliance inspections and utilize tracking tools to issue recommendations and corrective actions to responsible stakeholders. Project manage actions as appropriate to ensure accountable teams are set up for success to own their compliance impacts
    • Develop, track, and report environmental metrics as well as standard work procedures for the EHS team or factory personnel to ensure proactive tasks positively affect lagging metrics
    • Prepare content for environmental training for inclusion in Tesla Learning Management System (LMS) or live training sessions
    What You'll Bring
    • Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Chemical Engineering, or Environmental-related discipline; or equivalent
    • Minimum 5 years of experience managing multi-media environmental compliance programs in large scale manufacturing, chemical industry, or similar settings
    • Previous experience performing this position's job duties with progressively increasing complexity and responsibility
    • Demonstrated ability to work efficiently, prioritize workflows, meet demanding deadlines, manage customer expectations, and balance multi-faceted projects in a fast-paced environment, where requests and priorities change rapidly
    • Ability to communicate effectively with production employees, engineers, legal counsel, technical specialists, and management, cross functionally, in a multi-disciplinary environment; must be able to meaningfully explain foundational environmental rules to non-environmental stakeholders
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and strong analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills
    • Preferred qualifications: Environmental department or function management, including personnel or dedicated resources
