Environmental Remediation Sr Specialist – SE NM- Durango Midstream LLC
Durango Midstream LLC, a natural gas gathering and processing company with locations in NM and KS, is a small, but growing company focused on safety and providing reliable services to our customers. Durango Midstream, operating under the name of Frontier Field Services in New Mexico, has an upcoming opening for an Environmental Remediation Specialist in SE NM (Maljamar and/or Artesia, NM area) -- come join us!
Position Summary: The primary focus of this position is to manage and/or coordinate environmental remediation projects related to spills and/or leaks from midstream natural gas gathering and processing operations. Responsibilities include assessing soil and groundwater impacts from spills and/or releases involving potential hydrocarbon or chloride contamination and then developing and managing applicable project plan(s).
Essential Functions include the following:
- Gathers data for reporting of leaks, spills or releases and handles the reporting both internally in accordance with company spill and release policy and also in accordance with external reporting requirements of the New Mexico OCD (C-141 reporting). Responds promptly in the event of an emergency or in the event of those operational upsets requiring prompt reporting.
- Assesses soil and groundwater impacts from spills and/or releases involving potential hydrocarbon or chloride contamination.
- Effectively communicates with operations, management, landowners, and regulators (as required) regarding any leaks, spills, or other related issues with an environmental impact.
- Develops a project plan for effective, cost-efficient, and industry-accepted remediation in respect to any leak, spill, or release with environmental impact. Seeks the ideas and opinions of others; makes recommendations after anticipating work/project requirements and considers business impact and risks; solves problems with perspective of win-win solutions to produce effective compliant results.
- Effectively manages environmental consultants, contractors, and sub-contractors in accordance with the project plan, scope of work, and project budget for the environmental remediation-related project(s).
- Manages activities in accordance with project plan and tracks/updates schedules, completion of tasks, etc.
- Reviews and approves contractor and sub-contractor invoices.
- Actively communicates with both Operations and others in the EHS group pertaining to status of environmental remediation projects including preparation of a weekly remediation project update report.
- Utilizes EMIS software (i.e., Enviance) to maintain internal spill and release data base as well as internal remediation database. Also prepares a weekly report using MS Excel on spill and release metrics.
- Maintains active presence in the field to provide technical environmental support and environmental compliance assistance.
- Maintains transparent communication through department meetings, one-on-one meetings, appropriate email, and regular interpersonal communication.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- BS degree or equivalent in any of the multi-disciplined environmental sciences, engineering, or geologic sciences or equivalent relevant experience.
- Prefer candidate with at least 5 to 8 years relevant experience including prior experience and/or education in respect to site investigations, remediation, and sampling with the ability to assess spills and/or releases to the environment. Must also have knowledge of/experience with effective, cost-efficient, and industry-accepted remediation methods.
- Prefer candidate with extensive knowledge of New Mexico Oil Conservation Division Spill Rule (19.15.29 NMAC) as well as knowledge/experience with New Mexico NM811 (“Call Before You Dig”).
- Demonstration of effective project management skills.
- Experience or ability to work with EMIS systems, such as Enviance.
- Strong PC skills in all Microsoft office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook) required.
- Ability to communicate clearly and accurately both orally and in written format plus the ability to prepare reports to logically present facts and information.
- Ability to interact effectively with landowners, regulators, contractors, and all levels of employees (managers, field and plant personnel, etc.).
- Ability to read, understand, analyze, and interpret technical materials and regulations and provide “layman” version of requirements, etc.
- Working knowledge of federal and state environmental laws and regulations. Preference for candidate with knowledge of New Mexico Environmental (NMED) programs.
- Ability to develop, establish and/or utilize database systems for tracking compliance-related documents, permits, audits and status of audits and abatement procedures.
- Must have good collaboration skills and be able to participate in a positive and productive team-oriented environment focused on problem-solving.
- Ability to respond promptly in event of emergency or in the event of operations upsets requiring prompt reporting.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
- Some of work is performed in an office setting using a computer with exposure to video display terminals; other work is performed at a field compressor site, pipeline or plant setting with exposure to vibration, high noise levels related to loud machinery, and temperature extremes due to weather conditions and/or operating equipment.
- Physical tasks include walking over uneven terrain, carrying equipment and/or coolers, and occasional sampling activities such as hand auguring.
- Must wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in performance of work.
- Must be able to understand and communicate safety precautions as necessary; must be able to react immediately to emergency situations to prevent injury to self and others; must be able to react to conditions, alarms & beacons using olfactory senses.
- Performance of work on or around field/plant industrial equipment may involve periods of standing, walking, bending, stretching, stooping, and sitting and periodically may require climbing and maintaining balance on elevated working surfaces or working in a confined area.
- Position requires driving a company vehicle in all weather conditions with some travel over uneven terrain.
- Subject to call-outs in event of emergency with 24/7 response, unless an alternate has been specifically designated. Work may at times include extended hours.
- Regular and reliable attendance is required in performance of the job.
- Speak, read & write English proficiently and deliver and/or interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, verbal, diagram or schedule formats.
- Raise/lift items from ground level and lift up to 20 lbs.
