    We are seeking a highly skilled and knowledgeable HS&E Manager to join our team. The HS&E Manager is to ensure the well-being of employees, protect the environment, and safeguard the company against legal and reputational risks. Their responsibilities typically include developing and implementing safety protocols, monitoring compliance with regulations, investigating incidents, providing employee training, and promoting a culture of safety and environmental stewardship. Ultimately, the manager aims to create a workplace where employees can perform their duties safely, minimize environmental impact, and contribute to the overall success of the organization.

    Responsibilities:

    • Developing and Implementing Safety Protocols: developing and implementing safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working environment for all employees. This includes conducting risk assessments, creating safety training programs, and establishing emergency response plans.
    • Monitoring Compliance: ensure that the plant complies with all relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations and standards set by local, national, and international authorities. This involves staying up to date with changing regulations and conducting regular audits to assess compliance.
    • Incident Investigation and Prevention: If accidents or incidents occur, the HS&E manager leads investigations to determine the root causes and develops measures to prevent similar incidents in the future. This may involve analyzing data, conducting interviews, and implementing corrective actions.
    • Workers’ Compensation Claims: File workers’ compensation claim, coordinate information with claims adjustors and brokers, monitor employee treatment progress, and evaluate ability to offer modified duty and return to work process.
    • Employee Training and Education: provides ongoing training and education to employees on safety procedures, environmental awareness, and regulatory compliance. They may also conduct drills and simulations to ensure readiness for emergencies.
    • Environmental Management: oversee environmental management initiatives, including waste management, pollution prevention, and sustainable practices. This may involve implementing recycling programs, reducing energy consumption, and ensuring proper disposal of hazardous materials.
    • Managing Safety Data Sheets (SDS): Safety Data Sheets provide information on the properties of chemicals and how they affect health and safety in the workplace. The manager would ensure that SDSs are readily available for all chemicals used in the manufacturing process and that employees are trained on handling hazardous materials safely.
    • Collaboration with Stakeholders: collaborates with internal stakeholders such as operations, maintenance, and human resources departments to ensure a coordinated approach to health, safety, and environmental management. They may also engage with external stakeholders such as regulatory agencies, community groups, and suppliers.
    • Supplier and Contractor Safety: Ensuring that suppliers and contractors comply with safety and environmental standards when working on-site is crucial for maintaining a safe work environment. The manager would adhere to corporate policies for supplier and contractor safety and conduct audits to ensure compliance.
    • Continuous Improvement: continually evaluates processes and procedures to identify areas for improvement in safety performance, environmental impact, and regulatory compliance. Responsible for conducting continual hazard and risk assessments, identifying, and implementing appropriate control measures, and fostering a proactive approach to safety management in the plant. This helps to minimize the likelihood of incidents and injuries, protect the well-being of employees, and ensure regulatory compliance.
    • Metrics and Reporting: supports corporate HS&E targets and plant Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) by aligning local initiatives with broader organizational goals, implementing processes and new initiatives. By doing so we can ensure compliance, promoting a culture of safety, and driving continuous improvement.
    • Emergency Response Planning: Developing and maintaining emergency response plans for various scenarios, including fires, chemical spills, natural disasters, and medical emergencies, is crucial. The manager ensures that employees are trained and prepared to respond effectively to emergencies.
    • Ensuring Compliance with OSHA Regulations: In the United States, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) sets regulations and standards for workplace safety. The HS&E manager would ensure that the plant complies with OSHA regulations by conducting regular inspections, addressing any violations, and keeping abreast of updates to regulations.
    • Compliance with Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Regulations: The HS&E manager would ensure that the plant adheres to EPA regulations and implements best practices for environmental stewardship.
    • Management: Provide strong leadership to the team. Set individual objectives, performance expectations, foster a culture of accountability, and drive continuous improvement.
    • Team Leadership and Development: Recruit, develop, and lead and mentor a high-performing team. Provide guidance on best practices, industry trends, and professional development.
    • Talent Development: Develop talent through training programs, performance management, coaching, and succession planning.

    Education: A bachelor's degree in occupational health and safety, environmental science, industrial hygiene, engineering (preferably chemical or mechanical), or a related field is typically required.

    Skills & Experience:

    • Technical Experience: 3-5 years in a relevant technical field, in occupational health and safety, environmental management, or related fields.
    • Leadership Experience: 1-2 years of progressive experience in HS&E roles, including experience in supervisory or managerial positions, is preferred. Leadership skills are required to oversee a team of HS&E professionals and coordinate with other departments to implement safety initiatives.
    • Industry experience: Experience working in automotive manufacturing environments, is highly desirable.
    • Global Experience: Experience working in a global or multinational company, or exposure to HS&E practices in multiple countries or regions, can be advantageous.
    • Program Experience: experience implementing safety programs, conducting risk assessments, managing regulatory compliance, and leading incident investigations is valuable.
    • Regulatory: strong understanding of OSHA regulations, EPA regulations, and other relevant health, safety, and environmental standards.
    • Interpersonal Interactions: interact with employees at all levels of the organization, from production workers to senior management, as well as external stakeholders such as regulatory agencies, auditors, and contractors. Effective communication and interpersonal skills are essential for building positive relationships and promoting a culture of safety.
    • Analytical skills: to identify hazards, assess risks, and develop effective safety and environmental management plans.
    • Problem-solving: ability to investigate incidents, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
    • HS&E Systems: knowledge of environmental management systems (EMS) such as ISO 14001 and occupational health and safety management systems (OHSMS) such as OHSAS 18001 or ISO 45001.
    • Microsoft Office Suite: Proficiency in using Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint for data analysis, document creation, and presentation.
