Env., Health, and Safety Engineering Manager plans, develops and manages company policies for adhering to local, state and federal environment, health and safety regulations. Designs and develops facilities, work areas and work procedures. Being an Env., Health, and Safety Engineering Manager directs preparation, maintenance, and updating of environmental policy and procedure manuals. Ensures compliance with all environmental, health and safety regulations, and keeps abreast of any changes to laws and regulations that impact the organization. Additionally, Env., Health, and Safety Engineering Manager ensures projects are completed on time and within budget. Acts as advisor to environmental, health, and safety engineering team regarding projects, tasks, and operations. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a unit/department head. The Env., Health, and Safety Engineering Manager typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments.     This role, Manager EHS reports directly to the Senior Director, Facilities and Engineering. In this role, the incumbent has responsibility for leading the Environmental Health and Safety function for both EyePoint’s facilities in Northbridge, MA and Watertown, MA.

     

    Responsibilities

    Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

     

    Individual responsibilities

     

    • Develops environmental, health and safety policies and procedures to ensure safe and efficient operation of the business and to ensure regulatory compliance.
    • Monitors performance of Environmental, Health and Safety programs and regulatory compliance. Serves as local expert in safety, health, environmental regulatory issues and directs compliance activities on these matters.
    • Ensures compliance in areas of environmental, safety and health through risk assessments, self-audits and investigations and assist in the development of controls to reduce or eliminate hazards found within the workplace.
    • Develops and implements policies and procedures to ensure safe and efficient operation of the unit and to ensure regulatory compliance. Maintain all records and reports as defined by regulatory agencies and corporate guidelines.
    • Provides information and guidance to facility management on safety and environmental controls as they affect current and proposed processes, equipment and procedures including the review of all new projects.
    • Reviews and assess all new chemicals, pharmaceutical ingredients, and other materials being brought into the site and provide industrial hygiene monitoring as needed to assure exposure levels are controlled.
    • Oversees compliance training to ensure that individuals are trained and competent to effectively carry out responsibilities related to global occupational safety, health and sustainability standards and local or state regulations.
    • Manage all contractors and consultants as required to maintain safe and environmentally compliant facilities.
    • Develop and implement metrics to track safety performance and environmental compliance.
    • Lead site safety committee meetings.
    • Ensure all required site permits and regulatory filings are completed on time.

    Qualifications

    Primary skills and knowledge required include, but are not limited to the following:

    Basic Qualifications

    • Strong knowledge of Environmental, Health and Safety requirements and regulations
    • Effective written and verbal communication skills
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to successfully establish and maintain relationships with internal partners, and external vendors and service providers

     

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience FDA cGMP, OSHA, EPA regulations/requirements for facilities within manufacturing, preferably in the Pharmaceutical and/or Biotech industry
    • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with other functional areas
    • Operational Excellence mentality and experience

     

    Competencies

    • Established safety program management capabilities
    • Communications skills, both oral and written, including executive presentation skills
    • Interpersonal and facilitation skills necessary to forge consensus among challenging client interests while ensuring objectives are met
    • Ability to tactfully negotiate and positively influence peers and executive leadership
    • Analytical skills to identify potential improvement opportunities

    Level of Education Required:

    • Bachelor’s degree

    Preferred Field of Study:

    • Engineering, Environmental Sciences, or another technical field

    Number of Years of Experience in the Function and in the Industry:

    • Minimum 5-7 years experience performing in an EH&S capacity.
    • Certified Industrial Hygienist
