  • NYCOA seeks a highly motivated Environmental Health & Safety Intern to join their team in Manchester, New Hampshire. As Environmental Health & Safety Intern, you will assist with employee health, safety, and environmental compliance for NYCOA, in addition to administration of programs and policies related to health, safety, and environmental management.

    This position offers the opportunity to work with a diverse team of engineers and scientists to address complex environmental challenges.

    You will report to the Director of Environmental, Health, Safety and Security and benefit from the mentorship of an engineer with over 30 years of experience managing safety and environmental risks within the manufacturing industry.

    OUR PREFERRED CANDIDATE:

    • Pursuing or having recently completed a college degree program focused on occupational safety and health. (Master’s degree program strongly preferred but not critical.
    • Possesses strong communication and organizational skills.
    • Strong knowledge of chemistry and chemical hazards.
    • The ability to read and understand blueprints, process and instrumentation diagrams and technical documents related to the operation of industrial machinery.
    • Working knowledge of industrial hygiene including:
      • Air sampling techniques.
      • Personal protective equipment hazard assessments.
      • Principles of industrial ventilation and control methods for airborne contaminants.
      • OSHA Hazard Communication Standard and the GHS.
    • Proficient at creating site-specific training materials suitable for adult learning in a manufacturing environment.
      • Familiarity with developing SCORM and video training content with tools such as “iSpring Suite”
      • Familiarity with learning management systems.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 or Office suite, and SharePoint.
    • Flexibility to work outside of normal business hours if needed.
    • Must pass a drug test, physical, and background check.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    The exact nature of the work will be tailored to the specific skills of the incumbent. Here are some of the projects we are looking to complete during this internship.

    • Complete the transition of learning management to iSpring Learn
      • Transition records from old LMS.
      • Develop a role-specific training matrix.
      • Assign and track training.
      • Develop site-specific training to supplement existing generic content.
    • Create, review and revise personal protective equipment hazard assessments, equipment-specific lockout/tagout procedures, and confined space entry and rescue procedures.
    • Perform routine safety and environmental inspections.
    • Perform job hazard analysis.
    • Create and implement an effective process for managing Safety Data Sheets.
    • Participate in pollution prevention programs including identifying opportunities for resource-use reduction and beneficial re-use.
