Position: Director of Operations

Reports to:  Vice President of Operations

Basic Function:  The Director of Operations is responsible for the Flight Operations and will ensure that  flight operations comply with all applicable regulatory, FAA, and safety standards, as well as facilitating company policies. The Director of Operations will communicate with and liaison with company Senior and Executive Management, as directed by the Vice President of Operations.

Qualifications:   

• The Director of Operations must meet the requirements of 14 CFR 119.67(a).
• Hold an FAA Airline Transport Pilot Certificate.
• Have at least 3 years supervisory or managerial experience within the last 6 years in a position that exercised operational control over any operations conducted with large airplanes under 14 CFR 121.
• Have at least 3 years experience, within the last 6 years, as pilot in command of a large aircraft operated under 14 CFR 121.
• Must be Type Rated or able to be Type Rated in the Boeing 777 or 747-400.

Duties and Responsibilities:         

• Ensure Flight Operations compliance with Kalitta Air Safety Policies
• Execution of an operations program with established procedures and standards to assure safe, reliable, and efficient flight operations.
• Policy and management liaison with the supervising inspector of the Great Atlantic CMO.
• The application, custody, and maintenance of the Kalitta Air, LLC Operating Certificate.
• The application, custody, and maintenance of the Kalitta Air, LLC Operations Specifications as authorized by Operations Specifications A007.
• Ensure all regulatory and policy requirements are met with regards to operational control.   This authority may be delegated, but not the responsibility for those functions.
• Directly responsible for all airmen with an FAA Certificate of Designation when they exercise their designee privileges.
• Communicate with the FAA on regulatory matters relating to crewmembers and flight operations.
• Liaison with original equipment manufacturers and other operationally relevant external entities.
• The Director of Operations is responsible for Operational Control.  The Director of Operations and the Pilot-In-Command (PIC) are jointly responsible for the initiation, continuation, diversion, and termination of a flight in compliance with 14 CFR 121 and the Operations Specifications.

Authorities:                                        

• Draft and sign changes to Sections A, B, and C of the Operations                
• Specifications.
• Ensure that safety is the first consideration in all operations.
• Establish operating procedures that, when followed, will ensure that all flight operations are continuously in compliance with applicable Federal Aviation Regulations, Operations Specifications, and all other applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
• Maintain operational control of all flight operations including the orderly and safe dispatch of Kalitta Air aircraft as outlined in 14 CFR 121.

Language Skills:

• The ability to read, write, and understand spoken and written English.  
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  
• Ability to give verbal and written instructions to staff.
