Enterprise Architecture Director directs the architectural design, development, and deployment of an organization's overall IT systems. Leads the strategy, management, and implementation of the systems architecture function. Being a Enterprise Architecture Director ensures that systems are designed to consider functional requirements, scalability, and security. Evaluates system solutions based on user needs, cost, and required integration with existing applications, systems, or platforms. Additionally, Enterprise Architecture Director identifies and researches potential technology products to enhance solution delivery. Participates in creating strategies and policies to meet overall business goals. Oversees implementation of architecture system and advises adjustments to top management. May require a master's degree. Typically reports to top management. The Enterprise Architecture Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be a Enterprise Architecture Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function.     As an Enterprise Architect focused on business architecture, you'll be a key player in helping simplify complex business problems and create a shared view of what we do and how we deliver value to our organization. By applying business architecture frameworks to inform strategy and define changes that are needed to optimally transform our business for the future. You'll collaborate and be a change agent that ensures Principal achieves our strategic growth objectives!

     

    You’ll be working as a member of the Retirement and Investment Service enterprise architecture team to deliver business architecture and collaborate with senior leaders, strategy, product, agile teams, & IT partners to deliver outcomes supporting company strategies.

     

    You’ll have the opportunity to:

    • Collaborate with leaders across business and technology in the creation, communication, and application of business architecture to inform strategy and define the actions needed to successfully transform the business to achieve outcomes.
    • Provide expertise regarding how business capabilities, information and processes are best positioned to support today’s business demands and strategic objectives of tomorrow.
    • Accountable for crafting, maintaining, and effective use of business perspectives such as capability maps, gap assessments, value streams and information maps.
    • Educate others and apply business architecture frameworks and tools to enterprise and retirement business efforts.
    • Contribute to the definition of enterprise architecture standards and encourage reusability, integration, and adaptability.
    • Work through ambiguous situations effectively navigation the organization to deliver results.
    • Deliver business value by collaborating with and influencing internal partners at all levels including but not limited to business partners, agile teams, strategy team and technology partners.

    Who You Are

    • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
    • 10 years of related experience with a multi-business unit organization.
    • Familiar with business architecture concepts and understand connections between Enterprise Architecture domains including Business Architecture, Information / Data Architecture, Software / Application Architecture, Technology / Infrastructure Architecture, and Security Architecture
    • Creative capacity to craft, evolve and customize business architecture deliverables and to embrace and guide partners through change and complexity.
    • Strong critical thinking, analytical, problem-solving and big picture/conceptual skills
    • Excellent leadership, communication, planning and decision-making skills with a quick learning style.
    • Capable to work with team members and leaders across multiple subject areas (both Business and Technical)
    • Experience mentoring and maturing business architecture proficiency and practice in others through formal and/or informal leadership.
    • Experience with business architecture concepts and standard methodologies including business perspectives such as strategy maps, business capabilities, value streams, high-level process models, and customer experience journeys.

    Additional preferred experience:

    • Master's degree
    • Proven dedication to continuous learning and growth within architecture field (i.e., training, or architectural certifications such as TOGAF or Certified Business Architect)
    • Experience with an Agile software development lifecycle and understanding where Enterprise Architecture will provide value across the lifecycle.
    • Understanding of Six Sigma and/or Lean principles
    • Knowledge of financial and insurance industry

    Salary Range Information

    Salary ranges below reflect targeted base salaries. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation for all roles will be based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer.
    Salary Range (Non-Exempt expressed as hourly; Exempt expressed as yearly)

    $137000 - $185000 / year
    Time Off Program

    Flexible Time Off (FTO) is provided to salaried (exempt) employees and provides the opportunity to take time away from the office with pay for vacation, personal or short-term illness. Employees don’t accrue a bank of time off under FTO and there is no set number of days provided.

    Work Environments

    This role offers in-office, hybrid (blending at least three office days in a typical workweek), and remote work arrangements (only if residing more than 30 miles from Des Moines, IA, or Charlotte, NC). You’ll work with your leader to figure out which option may align best based on several factors.
