The Energy Dispatch Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function.     Job Summary:

    The Director of Engineering Services is a multifaceted role that provides a combination of leadership for the engineering services team and direct project management services for the product development teams. The director will oversee end-to-end management of product development projects, from their initial stages to completion. This includes creating and directly leading effective project management processes. Additionally, the Director leads the engineering services team, providing critical design, CAE, and testing support to the broader product engineering group.

    Supervisory Responsibilities:

    • Directly supervises 3-7 employees.

    Duties/Responsibilities:

    Project Management

    • Collaborate with key stakeholders, Product Management, and Engineering teams to effectively define product development project scope, objectives, and deliverables.
    • Establish and manage detailed product development project plans, including timelines, tasks, resources requirements, and deliverables.
    • Develop and implement effective project management tools to streamline processes and ensure project success.
    • Coordinate with cross function team leaders to allocate resources required to execute projects.
    • Direct and track internal and external resource tasks to ensure projects are completed on time, within scope, and within budget.
    • Schedule and lead project meetings and design tollgate reviews between all relevant contributors and stakeholders
    • Identify potential risks, their impact, and develop mitigation strategies to minimize disruptions to the projects schedule, quality, and budget.
    • Provide effective communication of project status, issues, and risks. Drive resolution, keep the project on track when issues arise, and communicate delays when necessary.

    Engineering Leadership

    • Direct and manage the engineering services team including design drafters, CAE engineers, and test cell and engineering technicians to support the product engineering team objectives.
    • Structure, organize, and manage engineering systems and processes. Assign tasks, direct activities, and delegate responsibilities and authority to team members as needed.
    • Assess and implement new technologies, tools, and systems to enhance team efficiency and resource utilization.
    • Supervise the product design process, identify and recommend solutions to performance problems related to materials, applications, and internal systems.
    • Institute and coordinate development, testing, and deployment of innovative engineering concepts. Direct the design, acquisition, and application of approved projects.
    • Cultivate and sustain a skilled workforce through recruitment, training, mentoring, and managing employee performance.
    • Develop and maintain departmental budget(s), monitor, and manage costs and reconcile exceptions to budget.
    • Stay informed of the latest trends and advancements in the engineering and product design sectors, as well as in managerial professions through ongoing education, organizational membership, and analysis of trade and professional journals, etc.

    Required Skills/Abilities:

    • Minimum of ten (10) years of progressive engineering and project management experience is required, with demonstrated success in managing new product development projects.
    • Demonstrated ability to communicate professionally and effectively across all levels of the organization to accomplish desired results.
    • Proficiency in the use of computers/software to include Microsoft Office, AutoCAD or similar, and ERP systems (preferably SAP).

    Education and Experience:

    • B.S. Mechanical Engineering (or foreign equivalent); advanced degree preferred.
    • P.E. licensing desired.
    • PMP, CAPM or similar project management certification a plus.

    Physical Requirements:

    • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
    • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.

    Travel: 10-20% typical

    Key Target Outcomes

    • First three Months:
      1. Review current product development plans, roadmap, and project management processes to build a clear understanding of current project management needs, key stakeholders, and current product development projects and processes.
      2. Take the lead project management role for all new product development projects.
    • First six months:
      1. Benchmark current project management process against industry standards to define potential project management methodology and process improvement plan and schedule of implementation.
      2. Establish key performance indicators relevant for tracking project performance (on time delivery, budget adherence, scope changes, etc) and schedule for implementation.
    • First nine months:
      1. Develop and implement a key stakeholder dashboard for monitoring and reporting progress of product development projects.
      2. Evaluate and implement project management tools and technologies to support project planning and execution.
