Brookside Community Church is a progressive community church, located in historic Brookside NJ, just 5 miles from Morristown. Our 100 member church is seeking an experienced individual who can lead our 12 voice choir in a meaningful and creative way that fosters the mission of our church. Music is an integral part of the life of the congregation. The choir is a experienced group of singers, who like to have fun and explore different types of music together. Under the leadership of the Senior Pastor, the Director of Music plays an important role in the ministry of the church, reaching both members of the congregation and the wider community.
The ideal candidate will have an solid background in music, with skills in vocal performance, conducting a choir; piano and organ skills are optimal. The candidate should have a college degree and or equivalent experience and be able to work independently. They will also be familiar with or willing to learn the values and mission of the Brookside Community Church.
The position is part time, averaging 10-15 hours per week which would include choir practice before or after church. There is some flexibility in the hours provided they align with the needs of the Pastor and choir. The Director of Music will have 7 Sunday's off per year.
Responsibilities will include:
Meet with the Pastor to plan music in ministry.
Conduct weekly choir rehearsals.
Arrange for soloists and identify musical talents among the congregation.
Arrange for accompaniment ( if needed) for rehearsals and 9:30 worship service.
Periodically provide updates for music ministries for the church website and provide information on rehearsal schedules, special events, and musical selections for worship.
Participate in staff meetings and planning sessions as requested.
Manage the music budget which would include purchasing of music, soloists, instrumentalists, in accordance with the current publishing and copywrite laws.
