    Strategic Sourcing Lead, Contract Manufacturing

    Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. In this vital role you will report into the Scientific Services, Lab Solution, and Contract Manufacturing Director within Global Strategic Sourcing (GSS). Role will be responsible for assisting with an existing Cost of Goods Manufactured (COGM) reduction effort for Amgen products that are externally produced on behalf of Amgen. The Contract Manufacturing category has~$400M in spend with over 100 direct manufacturing suppliers. The Manager will be responsible to understand business strategy and then support a multi-year, comprehensive category strategy roadmap which will deliver maximum value to Amgen internal customers, shareholders and patients in this spend category.

    Strategic Contribution

    • Drives data analytics supporting Cost of Goods Manufactured reduction efforts
    • Drives sourcing, contracting and any confidentiality efforts related to Cost of Goods Manufactured Reduction efforts
    • Acts as a trusted business advisor, providing thought leadership and consistent customer services
    • Develops and implements strategies that contribute to Cost of Goods Manufactured reduction effort across the Contract Manufacturing category
    • Negotiation for price transparency and contracting related to the Cost of Goods Manufactured reduction efforts
    • Develops deep supplier relationships and expert understanding of the supply market
    • Builds pricing models for Contract Manufacturing by modality

    Delivering Value for Customers

    • Contributes to the development and implementation multi-year savings plan including generation of new ideas
    • Demonstrates the ability to think laterally and understand the core strategy role to multiple functional areas within Amgen
    • Effectively communicates at all levels of the organization in order to drive decisions, create awareness and challenge partners
    • Uses Global Strategic Sourcing toolsets and processes to deliver efficient and effective sourcing decisions
    • Manages, minimizes and mitigates supply/contractual/regulatory risk by using other key Amgen functions where appropriate
    • Ability to develop and model multiple business cases to demonstrate the potential opportunities and impact of options across a category
    • Tracks the and value delivery against commitments and ensures alignment with FP&A and business owners

    Change Management

    • Ability to influence team members in a matrix organization, across geographies, including individuals with no direct reporting line
    • Demonstrated track record of identifying root causes to issues and problem solving complex organizational needs
    • Ability to constructively challenge executive leadership; and ability to develop and evaluate strategic options, including risks and risk mitigation strategies
    • Compelling and persuasive communicator (oral and written) with excellent interpersonal and influencing skills
    • Ability to effectively communicate cost models, including assumptions and rationale
    • Ability to apply Agile working principles in the team

    Analytical & Technical

    • Technical knowledge and business ability related to Contract Manufacturing categories within the Biotech industry
    • Ability to use the Category Management process and ability to use relevant tools to develop strategic plans
    • Ability to develop baseline cost models to accurately represent current state and ability to build dynamic total cost of ownership models with multiple scenarios in order to evaluate and quantify value

    Basic Qualifications:

    Doctorate degree

    Or

    Master’s degree and 2 years of Sourcing plus any combination of Finance, Engineering/Computer Science, Management Consulting and Data Sciences experience

    Or

    Bachelor’s degree and 4 years of Sourcing plus any combination of Finance, Engineering/Computer Science, Management Consulting and Data Sciences experience

    Or

    Associate’s degree and 10 years of Sourcing plus any combination of Finance, Engineering/Computer Science, Management Consulting and Data Sciences experience

    Or

    High school diploma / GED and 12 years of Sourcing plus any combination of Finance, Engineering/Computer Science, Management Consulting and Data Sciences experience

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Solid understanding of procurement/sourcing/category management methodology and able to drive value for customers using fit-for-purpose sourcing levers
    • Strong background in the manufacturing and testing of biotechnology and pharmaceutical products
    • Proficiency in MS Office tools (PowerPoint and Excel), analytical tools, ERP systems etc.
    • Excellent and disciplined project management and prioritization skills with ability to react to project adjustments and alterations promptly and efficiently
    • Ability to conform to shifting priorities and have ability to drive multiple simultaneous projects
    • Strong discernment in order to quickly understand functional/category dynamics and develop category strategies that drive value
    • Ability to deliver complex multi-regional and/or global projects in a matrixed and global environment
    • Broad knowledge of the market forces shaping a customer’s business context (e.g. supplier base, legal & regulatory environment, sources of competitive advantage)
    • Ability to understand external market information, including ability to conduct benchmarking to address cost, quality, risk and innovation considerations
    • Ability to understand cost drivers, internal costs and future demand and re requirements
    • Ability to provide thought leadership, ability to influence and actively shape strategy
    • Strong financial competence and problem solving skills
    • Independent self-starter and able to motivate others to accomplish ambiguous tasks
