Overview:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Payroll Specialist to join our team. As a Payroll Specialist, you will be responsible for accurately processing payroll, ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations, and maintaining accurate employee records. The ideal candidate will have a strong knowledge of payroll processes and systems, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Duties:
- Process payroll for employees accurately and on time
- Calculate wages, deductions, and overtime based on timesheets and attendance records
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations
- Prepare and distribute paychecks or direct deposits to employees
- Maintain accurate employee records including time off requests, benefits deductions, and tax withholdings
- Respond to employee inquiries regarding payroll matters
- Maintain employee files to ensure accurate employee data is current
- Reconcile payroll accounts and resolve any discrepancies
- Assist with year-end payroll activities including W-2 preparation
- Process Certified Payroll ensuring compliance with prevailing wage regulations
- Assist in HR day to day operations related to HR functions and duties
Skills:
- Proficiency in Sage 100, or similar software
- Strong understanding of accounting principles including debits/credits and general ledger reconciliation
- Knowledge of payroll tax laws and regulations
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in data entry
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive employee information
- Knowledge of Davis-Bacon Act provisions for government-funded projects, including accurate application of prevailing wage rates.
