  • SUMMARY OF POSITION  
    The ideal candidate will serve as the ER Partners for our Costa Rica manufacturing site within the Latin America Operations Employee Relations Hub. The ER Partner will work closely with site leadership to drive employee relations while maintaining a neutral position and consistent approach to Cardinal’s policies and procedures. Minimize risk, align work to meet business needs and improve employee morale and culture. Build manager skill sets, provide advice, coach employees and managers.
    The ER Partner works directly with leaders, managers and employees to provide advice and coach both parties on all employee relations issues. The role provides strong partnership on performance management, disciplinary processes, restructuring activity, legal issues, investigations, conflict management, etc. Work involves assessing and resolving complex employee relations matters ensuring consistency across client groups and alignment with Medtronic practices. The role helps to ensure a fair and consistent approach to Medtronic's policies and procedures, thus promoting a positive culture within the business, while minimizing risks. The partner provides a single point of contact for employee relation issues to ensure clear communication and efficiency in resolving matters. The role requires skill, tact, persuasion, judgment, and/or negotiation skills to accomplish objectives.


    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    • •    Effective case management of people related issues such as: ER issues, disciplinary actions, legal issues (harassment, discrimination, leave, accommodations, etc.), performance management (including Performance Improvement Plans and Coaching plans), policy interpretation and investigations.
    • •    Play a key role in the project management and process for reductions in force to include consulting with Managers, HR Business Partners, Legal, Finance and Security. Develop materials and resources to support process, ensuring an equitable and consistent selection process. Manage severance analysis, adverse impact analysis, legal review, training, scheduling, notifications, communications, and transition plans. Conduct employee relations risk assessments and provide actionable feedback. Conduct training and coaching of managers on skills and techniques.
    • •    Participate in the identification of employee relations trends and partner on identifying solutions and building manager skills. 
    • •    Provide counsel and facilitate prompt and effective resolution of workplace conflict to address issues for employees, managers, and leaders in a manner consistent with Medtronic policies, practices and legal considerations. Utilize various conflict management techniques, including training, mediation, conflict coaching, etc.
    • •    Consult and coach leaders on employee relations, performance management, reorganization, and organizational effectiveness issues spanning all levels within the organization. Provide advice and counsel to leaders on HR practices, policy, and employment laws.
    • •    Partner with Legal in conducting investigations, research policies/practices, create and gather documentation, make recommendations and implement resolutions when applicable. Identify best practices to influence continuous improvement in the organization. 
    • •    Develop effective relationships with the business to promote good employee relations across the organization. Interact with HR Business Partners, and other HR functions, to ensure a high level of employee satisfaction & engagement and appropriately plan, facilitate and monitor employee programs.
    • •    Maintain strict confidentiality throughout conversations and investigations. Manage highly confidential human resources information and exercise sound judgment in handling or working with confidential data and situations. Ensure that the Company operates within current and local employment law, policies and procedures, and applies good practice, creating and sustaining our reputation as a good employer.
    • •    Support multiple functions such as manufacturing operations, engineering, Quality, and other professional groups across the Costa Rica Manufacturing site, as well as occasional support to employees from our local Sales and Marketing group. Support multiple businesses and functions in a highly matrixed environment. Will require regular communication and follow-up with multiple stakeholders depending on site. Will be required to flex hours as needed to support shifts in manufacturing environment.  
    • •    Maintain strong business acumen while maintaining objectivity in work. 

    RESPONSABILITIES AND ROLES EHS
    Responsibilities

    • Comply with statutory responsibility under the national or federal regulations such as taking reasonable care of his or her own safety, health and welfare and of any other persons who may be affected by his or her acts or omissions at work.
    • Follow established EHS procedures and policies.
    • Encourage coworkers to follow EHS procedures.
    • Participate in employee engagement activities such as EHS inspections and EHS meetings
    • Report EHS incidents and hazards, assist in root cause analysis as appropriate, and cooperate in finding solutions or implementing improvement. 
    • Complete required EHS training. 

    Roles

    • Require the use of Personal Protective Equipment.
    • Stop work in the event of contractors or other employees performing work that may lead to a serious injury or environmental incident. 
    • Refuse to carry out an activity that jeopardizes the health of your own or staff and the building or facilities.
    • Refuse to perform operations/activities in which you are not trained or feel that your integrity is at risk.

    REQUIREMENTS

    • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university.
    • English & Spanish.
    • 4 years of progressive HR work experience including ER issues, disciplinary actions, legal issues (harassment, discrimination, leave, accommodations, etc.), performance management (including Performance Improvement Plans and Coaching plans), policy interpretation and investigations.
    • At least 2 years’ experience in employee relations matters as the substantial portion of their daily job if within prior HRBP role.

    Preferred Experience: 

    • Experience supporting multiple locations in different countries.
    • Experience supporting manufacturing sites
    • Experience supporting various functions at all levels of the organization.
    • Preferred Qualifications    Knowledge in the System '' Exactus '' and '' Workday ''
    • Demonstrated knowledge of local employment laws.
    • Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Office (MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
    • Project management.
    • Program/process design, as well as process improvement skill set.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of ER procedures and processes.
