    JOB DESCRIPTION:

    • This is an individual contributor position in central HR requiring extensive knowledge of policies, procedures state and federal employment laws (CRA -Title VII, FMLA, ADA, ADEA, FLSA, PDA, USERRA, GINA, DFWA, OSHA, Title IX) and strong conflict management skills in a high-volume environment.
    • Provides expertise in strategy development and planning and facilitation of strategies to address potential problematic employee relations issues.
    • Facilitates communication among employees and management.
    • Advises leadership and employees in problem solving, dispute resolution, regulatory compliance, and litigation avoidance.
    • Provides oversight, guidance and a broad range of consultative services to the highest levels of Divisional and Academic leadership regarding policies, procedures and risk mitigation; provides these services for University affiliate organizations in the context of their unique needs.
    • Works closely with faculty in the academic, research and healthcare environments with a solid understanding of academic structures, practices and protocols.
    • Assesses the potential for violence and ensures that all safety precautions are taken and emergency preparedness protocols are in place. Works closely with the Emory Police Department, as needed.
    • Conducts investigations and directs disciplinary actions, as appropriate.
    • Partners with the Office of the General Counsel as needed for matters involving potential litigation.
    • Coordinates with the Office of Equity & Inclusion and Internal Audit as warranted.
    • Coordinates other HR offices to provide services to employees in transition.
    • Monitors unemployment insurance applications.
    • Develops policy, protocols and procedures to ensure that employment, compensation, benefits, employee relations, and affirmative action practices comply with organizational policies and legal requirements.
    • Proactively consults with leadership on performance, organizational, and management matters.
    • Advises and oversees Divisional leadership on strategic initiatives including redesign and reorganization.
    • Develops viable business solutions regarding diverse human resource issues and employee concerns.
    • Systematically evaluates human resources processes and recommends design changes and improvements to better meet the needs of the business unit(s)/divisions.
    • Identifies/incorporates best practices and lessons learned from higher education and corporate and internal departments into program plans.
    • Is responsible for development and integration of human resource programs and associated projects to achieve strategic institutional business goals and operational objectives.
    • Conducts and directs needs assessments to determine measures required to enhance employee job performance and overall organization performance in achieving the goals and objectives of the organization.
    • Plans, develops, implements, and administers HR programs for Emory employees.
    • Works closely with other departments in the design, development and implementation of HR training programs for management and employees.
    • Provides organizational change management solutions through interventions, focus groups, surveys, and interviews.
    • Trains employees on HR issues and practices. Creates and presents course materials as needed.
    • Periodically analyzes and evaluates processes to assess efficacy.
    • Performs related responsibilities as required.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Seven years of Human Resources experience in a managerial or supervisory capacity with emphases on employee relations, workplace investigations, policy development and process improvement.
    • A bachelor's degree. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
    • Advanced degree and/or senior human resources professional certification preferred.

    NOTE: This role will be granted the opportunity to work from home regularly but must be able to commute to Emory University on a flexible weekly schedule based upon business needs.  Schedule is based on agreed upon guidelines of department. This role requires residency in the state of GA. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
