    Position Summary:

    strategy is supported by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Golisano Foundation and directed towards promoting equity and reducing health disparities through four strategic activities:


    (1) Preventive care services, including early intervention for those under 8 years of age, fitness programs and public health promotion activities;
    (2) Assessment services, directed at preventive health screenings and early detection of the most common conditions for people with intellectual disabilities and developing person-centered care coordination and connections to reduce those conditions;
    (3) Education and training services, to engage the health care workforce using evidence-based learning activities that employ virtual and hands-on interactions to improve quality of care; and
    (4) Promoting health systems reform through partnerships with providers and government organizations and promoting strong self-advocacy.


    The Sr. Manager of Health Services and Clinical Education Research is responsible for leading the design and execution of high-quality research projects that evaluate the effectiveness and impact of our assessment services and educational programs for our athletes, healthcare professionals, students, and stakeholders. Primary responsibilities include developing and implementing research/evaluation strategies, methodologies, protocols, and tools that align with the objectives and priorities of the Special Olympics Health team. The Sr. Manager will also collaborate with cross-functional experts across the organization, including clinical operations, clinical education, product development, data science, and business development, to generate and disseminate evidence-based insights and recommendations that inform decision-making and drive innovation. In addition, the Sr. Manager will strengthen the team by contributing to publications, presenting at conferences, and garnering additional resources through grant submissions.


    Primary Responsibilities:
    • Manage the design and execution of research projects that evaluate the effectiveness and impact of our health services solutions and educational programs, ensuring compliance with ethical standards, regulatory requirements, and best practices
    • Oversee evaluation of projects related to health assessments and healthcare provider training in collaboration with Special Olympics Health pillar leads and Special Olympics research and evaluation staff;
    • Support evaluation of a scalable community-based health screening model with preventive screenings guidelines and identified best practices based on Special Olympics’ Healthy Athletes® model;
    • Collaborate with staff to produce reports for project sponsors, manuscripts for the peer review literature, and clear language briefs for key stakeholders;
    • Identify grant opportunities and develop successful grant proposals in collaboration with Special Olympics research and evaluation staff and external academic experts;
    • Support annual operating plans for CDC, Golisano Foundation and other major donor agreements as it relates to implementation plans and budgets for research and evaluation projects;
    • Lead or support drafting of manuscripts for publication and present Special Olympics research and evaluation findings in forums, conferences and other convenings;
    • Supervise, mentor, and develop a team of research coordinators;
    • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including clients, partners, vendors, regulators, academic institutions, professional associations, and peer reviewers

    Required Qualifications:
    • Master’s degree or PhD in health services research, health policy, health economics, epidemiology, biostatistics, public health, or related field
    • 5 years of applicable work experience supporting research and evaluation projects in health services research or clinical education research in a health care setting, patient-reported outcomes, health and disability surveillance, epidemiology, policy, or related fields in a crosscultural environment. Additional education in a relevant field may be substituted for work experience
    • Demonstrated knowledge of research and evaluation project design and methods
    • Demonstrated experience managing complex research projects that involve vendor management
    • Experience cultivating, securing, and stewarding research grant proposals
    • Experience collaborating with Research and Evaluation professionals (academic or non-academic) in research/evaluation project design and execution
    • Exceptional professional writing and editing skills and experience with publications
    • Demonstrated ability to translate technical or complex research/evaluation findings into simple and compelling conclusions for communication to a non-technical audience through written and visual forms
    • Ability to work in global, matrixed organizations with results dependent on collaboration across departmental and geographic lines and effective indirect reporting structures 
    • Excellent oral communication skills in English, including a demonstrated ability to build and maintain networks, and communicate effectively with a culturally and professionally diverse range of stakeholders
    • Fluency with current workplace technology, including latest developments in remote collaborative technology
    • Strong administrative and organizational skills, including the ability to multi-task and manage multiple deadlines

    Desired Qualifications:
    • Experience working with people with intellectual disabilities or familiarity with Special Olympics programs
    • Experience in Program Evaluation and Community-Based Participatory Research
    • Demonstrated success in cross-cultural and multi-national teams
