Employee Development Specialist implements and supports programs aligned with leadership development strategy and strategic business imperatives to develop management capabilities throughout the workforce. Maintains frameworks that represent skills and leadership capabilities that are critical to long-term and short-term objectives. Being a Employee Development Specialist supports training, coaching, professional development, and experiential assignments that make up the leadership development strategy. Fosters a culture of informal knowledge exchange, coaching, and training throughout the organization to engage and develop the workforce. Additionally, Employee Development Specialist promotes training and development programs and career pathing initiatives. Prepares analysis and reporting of leadership development efforts and results. May participate in periodic succession planning exercises and talent assessments to ensure critical roles are defined. Helps to create slates of individuals identified for leadership development activities. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager. The Employee Development Specialist occasionally directed in several aspects of the work. Gaining exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function.     Salary and Benefits: This is a full-time, benefited Professional 5 level position. Starting salary range: $69,597.00 - $78,674.00/annually, depending upon experience.

    JOB SUMMARY Core responsibilities of this position include;

     Responsible for creating, delivering, and monitoring training to LCCC employees including but not limited to: New Employee Orientation, Supervisor Training, and customized training as needed. Perform training needs assessments and participate in training activities and special projects. Responsible for annual performance evaluation training, communication, and application. Provide coaching and counseling on employment matters to supervisors and employees.  Conduct and document employee investigations.  Participate in initiatives to improve the overall effectiveness of human resources processes and lead specific improvement initiatives. Function as an effective member of the HR Team in the provision of quality service, support, and continuous process improvement.

     

    Other tasks may be assigned based on contemporary institutional need.

    Essential Functions

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: – this position is Exempt , or is not eligible for compensatory or overtime pay provisions of the FLSA.  This listing of essential duties is not all-inclusive, but representative, other duties may be assigned.

    Employee Relations

    • Resolve employee relations matters, to include discipline/discharge and grievance/appeal procedures.
    • Consults with Vice President Human Resources and legal counsel to resolve complex personnel issues. 
    • Respond to employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors.
    • Conduct employee-related investigations.
    • Advise and train managers/supervisors in employee relations practices and strategies.
    • Act as the legal liaison in employment-related matters.

     Learning and Development

    • Consult with management on performance, organizational and leadership matters.
    • Conduct needs assessments to determine measures required to enhance employee job performance.
    • Responsible for annual performance evaluation training, communication, and application.
    • Monitor and evaluate processes and outcomes related to the LCCC talent management cycle to ensure alignment with LCCC’s institutional strategy, policies and procedures, culture expectations, and long-term employee success.
    • Design and develops HR training programs for management and employees.
    • Develop learning activities, audio-visual materials, instructor guides and lesson plans.
    • Review evaluations of training courses, objectives, and accomplishments.
    • Assess the effectiveness of training in terms of employee accomplishments and performance.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

    • Knowledge and experience focusing on human resource-related research, measures, and outcomes.
    • Ability to convey conceptual information to a variety of audiences.
    • Contemporary knowledge of, and ability to interpret and apply federal and state regulations regarding employee/employer relationships.
    • Advanced working knowledge and ability with Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe products, as well as database management systems and other systems in place.
    • Skills and abilities to perform as an organized, self-starter, and able to handle expeditiously, accurately, and confidentially the rapid receipt of communications with attention to detail.
    • Able to act on own initiative while exercising reasonable judgment.
    • Ability to support time-based requests and to function effectively in a multi-tasking, fast-paced environment with deadlines, frequent interruptions, and interpersonal pressure.
    • Ability to deal effectively and professionally with people; proven capabilities in establishing appropriate professional rapport, with courtesy and tact, to accurately determine other’s needs, collect necessary information, maintain confidentiality, and follow-through on commitments.

     

    PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS

    • Maintain high-level and respect privacy needs of employees and past employees.
    • Comply with highly inflexible deadlines.
    • Ability to interact professionally, diplomatically, and appropriately in emotionally-charged situations.
    • Prolonged personal computer use which would include keyboard and/or mouse usage as well as viewing a computer monitor.
    • Frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds.
    • Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.
    • The overall work environment requires the mental ability to shift focal point quickly due to interruptions; an employee must be able to mentally track multiple projects and tasking as well.
    • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate; however, there may be unexpected instances of somewhat loud sounds.

    Qualifications

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

    Minimum Qualifications:   

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Management, Public Administration, Human Resources, Psychology or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
    • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience working in an HR-related role including employee relations and/or employee development responsibilities
    • Strong problem-solving skills
    • Ability to comprehend, interpret, and apply applicable laws, policies, and procedures

    Preferred Qualifications:   

    • Master’s degree in Business, Management, Public Administration, Human Resources, Psychology, or related field
    • Experience providing human resource services in an educational setting
    • Experience in developing and delivering training in-person and virtually
    • Human Resources Certification, i.e., SHRM-(S)CP or (S)PHR
    • Certified Mediator
