Employee Development Specialist implements and supports programs aligned with leadership development strategy and strategic business imperatives to develop management capabilities throughout the workforce. Maintains frameworks that represent skills and leadership capabilities that are critical to long-term and short-term objectives. Being a Employee Development Specialist supports training, coaching, professional development, and experiential assignments that make up the leadership development strategy. Fosters a culture of informal knowledge exchange, coaching, and training throughout the organization to engage and develop the workforce. Additionally, Employee Development Specialist promotes training and development programs and career pathing initiatives. Prepares analysis and reporting of leadership development efforts and results. May participate in periodic succession planning exercises and talent assessments to ensure critical roles are defined. Helps to create slates of individuals identified for leadership development activities. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager. The Employee Development Specialist occasionally directed in several aspects of the work. Gaining exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function.     How does this role support our Mission?


    The Employee Development Specialist (EDS) provides career development services and intensive assistance for Goodwill Industries of Southern Arizona (GISA) employees.  In collaboration with the employee, the EDS produces Career Action Plans (CAPs), personal budgets, and makes referrals for community resources and/or services while maintaining accurate confidential records. The EDS interacts with all GISA staff and management, members of the public, and other community service providers.


    Qualifications:

    1. Three (3) years of work experience that includes direct experience as a case manager or as a supervisor in a human services department. 
    2. Certified Behavioral Health Technician or Certified Individual Peer Support Specialist (CIPSS) strongly preferred.
    3. At least one year of experience working in behavior health or peer support preferred.
    4. Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills with attention to detail.
    5. Must be highly compassionate and able to exercise good independent judgment. 
    6. Use creative problem solving to identity employee concerns and assist in finding solutions.  


    Duties & Responsibilities:

    1. In collaboration with the Director of Training, the EDS will consult regularly with the employees and management to ensure sensitive, confidential employee services.
    2. Develops and maintains excellent working relationships with all stakeholders in support of a collaborative approach to employee development.
    3. Spends approximately 70% of their time “on-site” at Goodwill stores, donation centers and warehouses working directly with the employees at their location.
    4. Interviews employees and community members to assess needs.  Completes confidentiality agreements, develops Career Action Plans (CAP), personal budgets and keeps accurate, timely case notes. 
    5. Makes referrals to community support resources and maintains good working relationships with referral agencies.
    6. Serves as a GISA Community Resource Liaison. 
    7. Meet with employees regularly to offer one-one-support and coaching.
    8. Provides career and financial education training to all Goodwill employees.
    9. Promotes usage of the Learning Management System (LMS). Suggest programs and course to support CAPs.
    10. Provides crisis intervention and critical life-sustaining resources for employees including referral to support services in a highly compassionate manner.                                                                                                                         
    11. Implements and maintains compliance of pertinent CARF accreditation standards for both departmental and agency requirements.
    12. Provides follow-up on all employee Career Development Plans, personal budgets and referrals to community service agencies/providers. Documents follow-up in case notes. 
    13. Facilitates aspects of the employee’s Career Development program to assist the employee in achieving his/her goals.  
    14. Actively supports employees with companywide initiatives, including, but not limited to, learning and development options, Employee Assistance Program, Wellness, and any other events or activities sponsored by the company.
