Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. To be an Employee Communications Director typically requires 3+ years of managerial experience.     JOB TITLE:   

    Director for Communications & Creative Strategy

    JOB PURPOSE:   

    The Director for Communications & Creative Strategy assists with all aspects of communication for Wyoming Athletics including the development and execution of communication strategies. 

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

    The Director for Communications & Creative Strategy assists with all aspects of communication for Wyoming Athletics including the development and execution of communication strategies. The Director for Communications & Creative Strategy collaborates with applicable departmental units (e.g., Communications (Media & Public Relations), Creative Services and Marketing & Branding, etc.) in planning, editing and strategically telling the Athletic Department’s best stories while promoting and protecting the Wyoming Athletics brand. These stories are produced in a myriad of ways – videos, graphics, motion graphics and animations, written stories, photographs, media releases and media pitches – and on multiple channels – through our social media, video productions, website, app and external media. The position may also be assigned duties for certain sports as a media relations contact. This position works with and answers questions from external media and supports the needs of coaches and student-athletes from our 17 intercollegiate (NCAA) teams. This role reports to the Assistant Athletic Director for Communications.

    REMOTE WORK ELIGIBILITY: 

    This position provides vital support to campus customers and requires the successful candidate be available to work on campus.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  

         Education:

    • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.

    Experience:

    • Three years of relevant work experience in digital media, communications, branding and storytelling concepts, principles, procedures and techniques.
    • Experience managing social media.

          Other:

    Valid driver's license with a motor vehicle record (MVR) that is compliant with the University Vehicle Use Policy.

    DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:  

    • Master’s Degree from an accredited institution.
    • Five years of experience working or covering collegiate athletics or professional sports and direct experience in digital media, communications, branding and storytelling concepts, principles, procedures and techniques for a Division I Athletic Department.
    • Working knowledge of the NCAA rules, guidelines, and principles.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a strong ability to relate well to students and staff, as well as the community.
    • Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously from ideation through execution in a fast-paced environment.
    • Willingness and ability to work a non-traditional schedule including evenings, weekends and holidays.
