Employee Communications Director manages the development and implementation of all internal communication programs within an organization.     ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW

    An increasing number of Americans – most of whom are women and people of color – are employed in service sector jobs that are marked by low wages, no health care, job insecurity, and lack of training and career advancement opportunities. The SEIU Education & Support Fund tackles these issues  by designing and facilitating worker-centered, relationship-based, and accessible education, training and workforce development programs.  We serve as a strategic partner to the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), and collaborate with other unions, nonprofit organizations, government agencies, and employers to help workers access good jobs and spark positive social change. Throughout our work, we promote a culture of empowerment that honors experience, culture, diversity, and inclusion.

     

    PROGRAM OVERVIEW

    Child Care Providers United Training Fund is a coalition of organizations united by a shared vision for lifting up the leadership of family child care providers in California, the majority of whom are women of color and immigrants. Family child care providers, who run child care businesses out of their homes, represent an essential workforce in California and are drivers of economic regeneration and community health. Our providers work with the state to provide subsidized care services for our most underserved families and have a unique role in leveling the playing field, ensuring that all children, regardless of income, have access to quality care and education. Our early childhood educators create the foundation for wellbeing and academic success for children across the state, positively shaping our next generation.

     

    All staff members are employees of SEIU Education & Support Fund (ESF). Our Child Care Providers United (CCPU) Training Fund team members are remotely dispersed across the state of California.

     

    POSITION SUMMARY


    We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Communications Director to join our California team and lead our communication efforts. As the Communications Director, you will play a pivotal role in advancing our mission by strategically managing and enhancing our program’s public image and engaging with the child care workforce in California. You will be responsible for developing and executing comprehensive communication strategies that effectively engage providers in our training services, tell the stories of childcare providers and convey our impact. This position will report directly to the Senior Director of Program Administration.


    RESPONSIBILITIES


    • Communications Planning and Implementation: Develop and execute comprehensive communication plans that align with the program's strategic priorities and communicate impact.  Should be willing to work on all levels including implementing a variety of communications outputs like website updates, email marketing and social media management.
    • Branding and Messaging: Craft and maintain consistent branding and messaging across all communication channels, ensuring the California program and SEIU Education and Fund’s communications are aligned,  strong and unified.
    • Content Creation: Oversee the creation of compelling content, including articles, reports, videos, graphics and marketing materials that effectively communicate the training fund’s work. 
    • Digital Engagement: Lead our digital presence by managing our website, social media platforms, and email campaigns to engage stakeholders and drive awareness.
    • Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with internal teams to ensure consistent communication with providers, partners, and funders.
    • Measurement and Analytics: Utilize data and analytics to track the effectiveness of communication efforts, making data-driven adjustments as needed.
    • Vendor management: Engage and manage vendors as necessary to ensure the advancement of the communications strategy.


    KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

    • Strong storyteller with impeccable writing and editing capabilities
    • Strong project management skills
    • Content management systems like Hootsuite and website management software
    • Experience with Salesforce or a similar database
    • Experience with design and photo editing tools like Canva and Photoshop
    • Comfort with video conferencing tools like Zoom and Google Meet


    EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS

    • Have 5-7 years of progressive experience implementing communications at a nonprofit organization or labor union.
    • Should deeply resonate with the training fund’s mission and values and a genuine commitment to the providers it serves.
    • Demonstrated ability to align communications efforts with organizational goals and mission.
    • Be flexible and capable of adapting to changing priorities and new challenges.
    • Have experience with a broad array of communications tactics. 
    • Be a problem-solver with a curiosity to learn new things and explore new approaches. 
    • Adept at working collaboratively with various departments and stakeholders to achieve shared goals.
    • Have a commitment to language access and experience crafting multilingual communications. 
    • Experience creating communication campaigns accessible to a variety of literacy-levels.
    • Should possess excellent organizational skills, ensuring projects, tasks, and relationships are managed efficiently and deadlines are met.
    • Demonstrated commitment to advancing and embedding equity and inclusion within programs, practices, and policies.  

     

     

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • Proficient in  English plus one or more of the following languages: Arabic, Mandarin, Spanish, or Somali
    • Experience at a labor union
    • Experience in child care and working with large-scale multiracial and multilingual membership-based organizations. 

     

    PAY AND BENEFITS

We are a hybrid organization with co-located and remote staff. We provide a home office stipend for employees who telework, and cell phone stipend (or company sponsored cell phone) for all employees.
