    Description

    Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer (COO), the Director of Communications will lead strategy development and deployment for all communications, website, and public relations messages and collateral to consistently and effectively articulate CAM's mission, vision, and impact. The Director of Communications will ensure that CAM is viewed as a trusted source, disseminator, and conduit of information among its diverse network and constituent base.

    The Director of Communications will work closely with agency leadership as the communications partner on a variety of strategic initiatives and deliverables across functional areas and programs.

     

    Responsibilities

    • Create the agency communications strategy, working closely with the CEO, Chief Strategy Officer, and agency leadership team, as well as systems to support informed and aligned strategic communications agencywide.
    • Develop, implement, and evaluate the annual communications plan across the agency’s discreet audiences in collaboration with the key internal stakeholders.
    • Lead the generation of online content that engages audience segments and leads to measurable action for stakeholders, from clients/community to partners, staff, and donor prospects; partner with and mentor the Senior Manager of Digital Marketing on content generation.
    • Manage content development needed for all print and electronic collateral including, but not limited to, newsletters, brochures, event/workshop materials and CAM's website; partner with agency leadership to leverage relevant expertise, data, and stories.
    • Decide how, where, and when to disseminate agency communications; partner with the Development team as necessary to ensure vibrant and on-brand messages, images, graphics, and presentation.
    • Strengthen agency communications vehicles as drivers of content across channels (e.g., the e-news, blogs, CEO monthly newsletter, et al.), to create momentum and awareness internally and externally; partner with agency leadership and the Development team to test and increase the effectiveness of communications activities for increased credibility, visibility, advocacy actions, and donations to the agency.
    • Coordinate website architecture to represent the agency as it grows and changes; ensure accessibility for target audiences; maintain webpages have new and consistent information (including article links, stories, grant awards, and events) that is posted regularly; drive external communications to the agency’s website.
    • Set goals for level of engagement across platforms, develop standard measures to track engagement and determine progress towards goals, and both inform and lead appropriate strategies based on data.
    • Manage full process to develop required agency materials and maintain all print and electronic collateral; partner with Development to ensure that distribution is maximized to the right audiences across all events, engagement, board, and key stakeholder communications.
    • Effectively coordinate the agency’s critical communications around board events, annual meetings, community and high-profile events, advocacy issues, and support inclusion of internal functional teams (e.g., HR and Learning & Evaluation) as needed to engage various discreet audiences/stakeholder groups.
    • Partner with agency leadership to create a strong process to lift up program successes (e.g., strategic partnerships, learnings, and impact), and community voice for relevant publications and communications.
    • Partner with Development to strengthen communications systems and tools, updating and creating new processes and tools as required.
    • Support program departments in creating internal communication materials related to onboarding, training and new systems/processes.
    • Manage and develop new media contacts; strengthen leadership visibility and agency perspectives in local and regional media.

    Qualifications


    CAM is seeking an accomplished Director of Communications who has at least 10 years of communications experience, ideally in an “in-house” leadership role within a complex (number and variety of constituents) nonprofit entity, and covering areas such as website content, newsletters, and donor communications. The ability to take knowledge and transform it into exciting and useful messages and disseminate it to the right audiences through the best distribution channels is critical.
